Sync problems on Android

I'm having trouble with a file in my Dropbox which I frequently amend. If I download it to my WIN10 account there is no problem - the latest version is brought up, and if I amend it the latest version is saved. If I look on my Android system, the file list shows correctly that the file was updated a couple of days ago, but the file that is downloaded (a Word file with the save date shown in the header) is that for last July, 8 months ago. It is always the same, old, version that is accessed.

What's going on?

  • In that case, could you try reinstalling both the Word app and our own mobile app on your Android device, Alan?

Maybe that will do the trick!

In case it doesn't though, you could try disabling the file's password protection and set it anew to see if it makes any difference.

Let me know how you get on!

Hi Alan41; welcome to our Community!

Can you please let me know if you're seeing this discrepancy within our mobile app or in a 3rd party app's interface (like MS Word for example)?

Have you tried clearing our mobile app's cache perhaps?

    Keep me posted, Alan!

The problem is apparent in MS Word - the app can't do a preview because it is a password-protected file. The version that Word opens is always the same one (with the same date), even if the file has been edited and updated.

The Dropbox app shows the file as having been updated, with the correct date and time, but the file that opens is the old one.

I tried clearing the cache (thanks for the tip - I found it in Settings), but it makes no difference: the problem persists.

Thank you Walter , I reinstalled Word and that seems to have done the trick.

I had the same problem with Excel. I regularly update a password-protected Excel file on Windows and store it on Dropbox. Dropbox on my my Samsung S22 shows me an old version of the file. Uninstalling and reinstalling Dropbox did not help but uninstalling and reinstalling Excel finally solved the problem.
