1766 TopicsWarning - Long-Term Dropbox Unlimited Customers: Retained Legacy Storage Can Be Removed
I’m posting this as a warning to other long-term Dropbox business users, particularly anyone who originally had Unlimited storage and was later migrated to a paid tier with retained legacy storage. This is not a rant. It’s a factual account of what happened to me, so others can assess their own risk. Background I was a long-standing Dropbox Business customer on an Unlimited plan. When Dropbox discontinued Unlimited, I was explicitly told that: My existing storage usage would be retained My account would continue functioning as before My monthly cost would increase to reflect the new structure My price went from roughly £70/month to £154+/month, which I accepted in order to keep my storage and business workflows intact. Over time, I built my business around this arrangement and stored ~56TB of client data, some of which I am legally required to retain. What went wrong Recently, my bank temporarily declined a payment after flagging Dropbox as a potential fraud risk. This caused a brief, unintentional billing interruption. Important points: I did not cancel my plan I did not request a downgrade I updated my payment method as soon as I became aware However, during that short interruption: My account was downgraded When I re-upgraded, I was placed onto the current Dropbox Advanced plan My previously retained legacy storage was permanently removed My account now shows a 30TB limit, despite already having ~56TB stored. Dropbox’s position (in their own words) Support confirmed the following: I was notified that my account would be downgraded I was not notified that retained legacy storage would be permanently lost Once downgraded, legacy storage “no longer exists” and cannot be restored There is “no room for escalation” because the features are no longer offered The only option is to pay substantially more for additional licences or storage add-ons In short: A temporary billing issue permanently removed storage that I had already been paying a higher monthly fee to retain. Why this matters to other users If you: Ever had Unlimited Dropbox Were told you could retain your existing storage Are now paying more under a newer plan Store large volumes of business or client data Then your storage is not safe in the way you may assume. Based on my experience: A billing interruption (even involuntary) Can trigger a downgrade Which can permanently remove retained storage With no restoration, review, or escalation available Even if you immediately fix the payment issue. Key takeaway This isn’t about asking for free storage or legacy features. It’s about undisclosed consequences: Being warned about a downgrade is not the same as being warned that previously retained storage will be permanently forfeited Especially when customers have already accepted significant price increases to keep that storage If you rely on Dropbox for large-scale storage, I strongly recommend: Keeping multiple backup copies Reviewing your exact contractual position Understanding that “retained” storage may not survive plan interruptions Why I’m posting this I’m sharing this so other users: Aren’t blindsided the way I was Can make informed decisions Can assess whether Dropbox is still safe as long-term business infrastructure If you’re in a similar position, I’d genuinely like to hear your experience.40Views0likes2CommentsI need to cancel a subscription for an account I can no longer access
I need to cancel my subscription as my dropbox was tied to an email address from an old employer. I can't get assistance from anything online with dropbox. I am just directed to have a password reset and directed to that origiaonl email account, which I no longer have access to. I have tried several tickets with dropbox, but they close the ticket because they think they have resolved my issue I've paid every year over the past number of years over $100 a year. I can't access the benefit of my account because I can't log in to my dropbox with that email. I can't get dropbox to switch to my Gmail and I can't find assistance. I did find the website to mail a cancellation request, which I'll put in the mail today but holy cow, Mail? to cancel???? wow. disapointed with my customer service experience trying to switch my account over to an email I have access to. any assistance is appreciated as I mail the 1950's paper letter asking to cancel my account. PayPal ID [removed] Email for account: [removed per the Dropbox Community Guidelines] (I do not have access to this) as I do not work there anymore. my bad for not using my gmail originally.24Views0likes2CommentsI can't sign in on Safari, but I can sign in on Firefox

Dropbox Plan - Plus, Personal Account Do you have access to the email linked to the account? Yes Are there any devices connected to your Dropbox account? iPhone, Macbook Pro Question or Issue I have had a dropbox account at least 5-10 years if not more. Recently a non-profit group that I was associated with experimented with the TEAM aspect of their free Dropbox account. I was an "invited" member. I was not involved in setting it up. About 3 months ago they upgraded to a new account and disabled the free account and removed all "invited" accounts. Since that happened I no longer have access to my files on my personal dropbox account. I can see them in the side bar of my apple finder under DROPBOX-PERSONAL, but they are not syncing and when I click a file I get an error message: Your device couldn’t connect to the server. There may be a problem with the server or network. I have upgraded my account to Dropbox Plus so that I could get support plus more space. I would like to get my files back now. I'd like to know how to re-link my files to my account. The account name remains the same - same email address. Please help. Thank you.80Views0likes13CommentsI've accidentally joined a Dropbox team, thinking it was a client sharing a file
Ive been using Dropbox to run my subscription business for 7+ years. Yesterday, I inadvertently clicked on a link thinking it was a shared folder with a client. I have now joined their team, and my acvpunt has merged with theirs. They have ALL my business/tax information and client files. Ive tried to contact them to no avail, I don't think they'd used Dropbox before, and don't really know what they're doing. My account has hundreds of subscriber folders, all linked to specific URLs, so I cant lose my account. I've been a paying customer for years, however support so far has been non-existent, stating that i must contact this non-contactable "admin" for them to restore... potentially DELETE my entire account. I really need my account separated ASAP, my entire business and livelihood depend on it. I can't believe something so catastrophic comes with no warnings! If anyone can please help, I'll be forever in your debt.29Views1like1CommentI wonder if I have more than one account?
Device Asus VivoBook17 Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 10 Home/Chrome I wonder if I have 2 Dropbox accounts? I have a basic account that says I have run out of storage and I need to update it. Yet I have a summary of card purchase that shows I paid for Dropbox Plus (11/9/25 to 11/9/26) dated 11/9/25. I also have a credit card statement that shows I paid $119.88 on 11/9/25. Can someone straighten out this mess? Thanks for your help!18Views0likes1CommentI tried to connect my desktop app to my old Dropbox account, but I accidentally made a new one.
Device Dell all-in-one Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Question or Issue I have a new Dell all-in-one desktop PC. It is intended to replace a prior Dell All-in-one PC which has a Windows 10 OS that is no longer supported. To access my prior Dropbox account and files, I thought I needed to download the Dropbox app on my new PC. Apparently, that was a big mistake. I now have two Dropbox accounts, can't access the first account on my new PC, and new account doesn't have the capacity to house the files from the first account should I try to transfer them over. I have messed with this unsuccessfully for more than a week, read the suggested articles and FAQs, etc. I'm ready to just terminate the new account and look for other storage options. How do I terminate my new account? For that matter, how do I terminate both accounts? Thank you.22Views0likes1CommentHow do I stop files being deleted due to inactivity?
