Dropbox Backup
78 TopicsMoving Synced Data To External SSD Drive & Backing Up That Drive
To free up space on my notebook and assist in my DAW performance, I'm using a new external SSD drive to directly write new files too and I want to move my large existing files (already uploaded to Dropbox) to this new drive. I am trying to move these large audio files from my notebook Dropbox folders which become ultimately available "online only", to the external SSD drive then want to back this drive up using Dropbox Backup. The issue I am having is that to move the existing "online only" files they are needing to be downloaded first, then copied to the new external drive and then, once I click to back the new external SSD drive up, will be uploaded back to DBx Backup facility. This process is clogging up my notebook to the point it' going to take days and can' do too much on it. Question: Is there a way to move these "online only" [already uploaded] files directly to the Backup folder one time only to save downloading them, copying to the new drive, then re-uploading the same files??? Maybe I am missing something very easy?? is there a better way? Can i sync two drives instead, maybe?? Many thanks in advance.16KViews0likes5CommentsUnable to stop or turn off desktop backup [SOLVED]
A while ago I turned on the new 'backup desktop/documents/downloads' feature. Now I want to turn it off, but I can't. There's no obvious 'turn this feature off' button. All the instructions I've seen point to a 'manage backups' or 'import' tab, which I don't have. I've upgraded to the latest Beta (Win 10), uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted several times and nothing. I've just set Dropbox up again and I have unchecked the 'MY PC' box. But Dropbox is just merrily syncing all my stuff again. It's insane that Dropbox would enable this feature and not give users a simple way to turn the thing off. Does anyone know how I can do it?Solved16KViews3likes44CommentsViewing backup files on mobile app
Hi, all! I have some old flash drives that I just backed up on my MACBOOK. They appear in DropBox Backups. I can’t figure out how to view the backups in my mobile app. I can see the file names in my mobile app. But, when I click on them, it simply takes me to the general list (camera uploads, documents, etc.) TIA!Solved11KViews0likes12CommentsNot able to access backup files, get an error when trying to.

I really couldn’t find a matching Board for my topic, so if it doesn’t fit this one, feel free to move it. I’ve been using Dropbox for years to not only sync selected files between three home PC’s but also as a form of “cloud backup”. This was way before Dropbox Backup was developed. What I did was ignore the normal Documents, Downloads, My Music, etc. folders in the Windows OS but instead created the same folder structure in my Dropbox folder. That way each PC could sync only the specific folders/files it wanted on its local hard drive yet have the comfort of knowing the files were backed up in the “cloud” on Dropbox. Each PC could choose to sync specific files from other PC’s if needed (not by “sharing”). All PC’s shared the 2TB allotment of my Dropbox plan. If I needed to replace a PC, I just signed into Dropbox on the new PC, synced the proper folders, and when all was synced, deactivated the old PC under devices. Enter the era of Dropbox Backup. Now that this feature is available, should I be using it? I’m building a new PC to replace another and I hope to have a 1TB M.2 stick as my C: drive. This will hold Windows 11 and my Dropbox folder. One thing I want to avoid is file duplication. I know that many of the files I have in Dropbox will not be shared but most will be accessed from iPads from time to time. What makes Dropbox Backup necessary considering how I’ve been using Dropbox up to now? A complication I also have is that I’ve went from 3 PC’s to 2 PC’s and one of those is shared between 2 people using Windows User Accounts. I set Dropbox up for both accounts and I believe it has created duplicate files on the PC. I like using the separate Windows User accounts so that individual preferences for desktops/programs can be used. Is there a better way to use Dropbox for multiple users on the same PC? Thanks in advance.Solved7.4KViews0likes3CommentsDropbox has taken over files into my PC, and how I can restore them
I bought a new PC a couple of years ago and decided it would be a good idea to install Dropbox. I am not a techie and somehow every single document and file that I have created, despite being saved to my PC, was also saved in dropbox. I really did not want this to happen as I wanted to keep dropbox for the important and quick-to-access stuff. The really bad news was that it also decided to transfer massive historic files into itself without my wanting it too, hence the knotweed analogy - I simply couldn't find a means of stopping it as none of the google search steps matched what I was seeing in dropbox. There was no 'pause syncing' button. Today I deleted a few unwanted files but decided to remove the software from my desktop. Every single file that I had saved to my PC has been removed, this even though they were only meant to be saved on my PC, not in dropbox. I accessed the app and emailed certain files to myself but they cannot be downloaded. How is this even possible? What's the solution to: 1. Preventing dropbox from stealing every piece of my data and storing it in itself if / when I re-install it? 2. Recovering my spreadsheets etc without manually reconstructing them? That would take days and a huge amount of lost income. Thanks if you have read this far.4.9KViews1like18Commentsattempted to zip too many files error when wanting to download backup
Hi, iv'e backed up my dropbox files and i'm attempting to download them from the backup site. i'm reffering to: https://www.dropbox.com/backup/ when i go to the website and ask to download it, it tells me "Attempted to zip too many files". this made me loose a heart beat, though i know everything is there. i'm relying on this, which i guess was a fatal mistake. iv'e got all of my important files there, and i need them to continue my work - i used this as actual backup for some files, a big mistake 😞 i know everything is there, but how can i reach it if it can't download them? Thank you in advance.Solved4.9KViews1like8CommentsHow to stop Airdrop transfers ending up in Dropbox downloads by default. How to change this?
Hi can anyone help me with something simple please? When using airdrop transfer. How can I have the airdrop transfer arrive in icloud so I can see the transfer across all my devices? Hi all, I have the latest silicon iMac however keep all my files on a recently purchased external Samsung 1T SSD drive due to lack of hard drive space on my new Mac (256GB). So I wanted to sync my external hard drive to Dropbox. I couldn't do it simply because Dropbox doesn't detect the drive. I tried to connect my external drive to USB-C port at the back of my Mac, or via USB-A port using an external USB hub - no result. However when, for experiment sake, I connected my old portable WD Studio drive, Dropbox detected it straight away. All my portable drives are formatted to Mac Os Extended (Journaled) and I wouldn't want to change that. Can anyone help resolving this issue? Thanks in advance.Solved2.9KViews0likes9Comments
