Application Affected Dropbox Device Dell OptiPlex 980 Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Ubuntu Linux Dropbox App Version (if using the app) v237.4.5655 Question or Issue I created 2.4M CSV files for a client, and the Dropbox app starting to upload these files. After almost 48 hours of this, I discovered that this was way too many files. My remediation was to exclude the top-levl directory from syncing. I made that change ten hours ago, but the app is still grinding away, doing something. I tried exporting the logs to find out what it might be doing, but the logs just show up as binary data -- I don't know how to read them. How can I sort this out?53Views0likes6CommentsThe desktop app always shows as syncing on Mac OS
I have strange syncing behaviour on my MacBook M3 running Tahoe V26.1 Dropbox build 237.4.5655 In general, syncing seems to be working, but syncing never stops. If I change 2 files and monitor the sync activity, it shows 2 files being synced, then one named file, then just “syncing”, which never goes away. If I pause syncing, then restart, it shows “Syncing 1 file”, but no name, for about 20 seconds, before returning to the simple “Syncing” message. The icon in the menu bar always shows the syncing wheel. Any help much appreciated!Solved40Views0likes8CommentsFiles won't save
Twice in the last 7 weeks I've been completely unable to save a document. I've tried renaming it, and it won't rename-- it just stays as the original name. No error message. The system "blinks" and reverts back to the original name each time I go to "save as" and try to update the file name. The side box pops up each time: "Meet the dropbox badge" as if I've opened a new file. The document continues to say it was last updated 3 months ago when I just did 30 minutes of work on it this morning and tried to save it repeatedly. I can save my Word doc as a pdf-- that's the only saving I can do. But, that means I can't open it up and continue to work on it later this afternoon. I primarily use the desktop app. However, the file is not saving online, either. It is not the same file that had this same problem in early March, making me worry that I could lose work on any file at any time. There was no warning that something was wrong with the file when I started working on it. I'm afraid to close the document now for fear of losing my work. What can I do?? This is a Windows 11 computer. No other issues have occurred with it. Last time, Dropbox said this happened because the system had a recent update. However, that is not the case this time!76Views0likes2CommentsHow can I create local copies of my files on the Mac Dropbox app?
Device: Mac Studio Operating System/Browser (if using the web): Mac OS Tahoe Syncing Status Up to date Question or Issue I have been using Dropbox for years. I have selective sync and everything is online. I want to create a local copy. How do I do that? I donot want to go folder by folder and say keep a local copy. I want to still have all folders on line just to keep a local copy of every thing in simple action. I am also considering keeping a synced copy on my Ugreen NAS. How do I do that? Thank you for your help.22Views0likes2CommentsSync Issues with integrated Dropbox app on Mac
Device (Mac mini m4 / iMac m1 etc.) Syncing Status Up to date Question or Issue Hi all, my team and I are using dropbox via the integrated app system in the Mac finder. We have been using this for years with little to no issues, until last week we started having an issue where team members would upload or edit files, and these would not be visible to anyone else but themselves. I have found that manually clicking on the dropbox icon (in the top right) to check for sync errors, resulted in it saying that all sends were up-to-date, but if you clicked pause for 30 mins, and then immediately resumed, it would then sync said files. In some cases also, the files would sync after 24 hours on their own. Has anyone got any ideas as to why this might be happening, and if so how to make sure all dropbox remain synced please, I would be extremely grateful. Device MacBook Air Operating System/Browser (if using the web) MacOS 15.7 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) The dropbox app does not work on the new computer Syncing Status "Syncing 43 files" Question or Issue I am having the same issue that many other users seem to have after migrating to a new Mac. Many of my dropbox folders have Selective Sync conflicts. This includes my Downloads folder, which means I cannot see or access any new or existing downloads. Which, in turn, means I cannot download a new Dropbox app for MacOS 15.7. Previous threads on this topic seem to boil down to "you shoudn't have used Mac Migration Assistant, and now you have to sort through your whole dropbox manually." Is there any better advice? Any why in the world is there no warning about this? Surely it happens every day!9Views0likes1CommentMy Dropbox app is stuck syncing files on Windows 11 after an advanced reinstall.
Device Desktop PC Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Pro Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 237.4.5655 My desktop app has been stuck syncing for about a week. We ran out of space on our work Dropbox network (80TB used). I freed up around 20TB of space and all PC's on the network apart from mine successfully (after some time) synced the changes. Mine however was stuck at 5.5 million files syncing. I left it to do its thing for several days with no change. So I followed the "advanced reinstall" instructions on this page https://help.dropbox.com/installs/advanced-reinstall. The reinstall was successful and it seemed as though things were moving again. However for the last few days I've been stuck with between 12,000 and 16,000 files syncing. The number gradually goes up day to day. I'm working on Dropbox still, as are my colleagues so this may be why. I have to manually download my colleagues files and place them where they should be syncing before using them. When I hover my mouse over the DB icon in the system tray it says its downloading the 16k files, uploading around 40 files. But very little download up upload bandwidth is actually being used. I have a gigabit connection so I don't believe its actually doing much at all on the network. How can I fix this? We have around 60TB of files on our DB network and I have around 500GB of that synced at any given time. Thanks for any assistance!183Views1like18CommentsHow can I sync files on Dropbox? The app doesn't do it automatically.
I looked up how to sync here on DropBox, but it looks like they still have the same instructions as it worked years ago. I have a brand new laptop and when I right-click on any of my Windows folders, I do not get "Quick Actions" or "Sync." I get a bunch of others, none of which is sync. I used to be able to sync things in the old DropBox. I don't know what happened to the user interface but it's completely confusing and not helpful. I don't even see the word "sync" anywhere. Please help, as I am saving files on one computer and need to open them on another.209Views2likes7CommentsRestoring to a new drive after failure w/ thousands of selective sync errors on my cloud
Generic PC Win 11 desktop Windows 11 Latest version Syncing Status: Up to date (no local files) I've been paying for Dropbox since 2012 - I have .75 TB stored in my Dropbox. It usually works well - I had a hard drive failing and was not able to move my Dropbox to another drive after 3 days trying with the move feature, so I used the 'security' feature to remove Dropbox and local files from this machine. I then attempted to re-sync, and now there are *thousands* of files in my Dropbox cloud that are marked as selective sync errors. Manually merging them one by one is going to be an enormous hassle. I'd like just to use the cloud version of my work, but have to remove the selective sync conflicts that are spread across many, many folders, zip files, etc. Any suggestions? Right now, I have everything set to the cloud. My Dropbox after reinstall is successfully set up on a new working 3TB drive - but it looks like Dropbox didn't remove all of the old drive files though I removed this machine and asked it to delete. TLDR: How do I resolve thousands of selective sync issues and just use my cloud storage version as the authoritative source? Is there a tool for this?34Views0likes3Comments
