Subject: Urgent Account Recovery Request ā Lost Gmail Access Hello Dropbox Support, My Dropbox account is registered under the email address [email removed as per Community Guidelines]. I have lost access to this Gmail account and cannot receive verification codes. I attempted the recovery form multiple times, but it now says I have tried too many times and instructs me to contact support. I have always used the free Dropbox plan. To help verify ownership, here are details I can provide: - Devices I used with Dropbox: [list PC names, phone models] - Shared folders/files I remember: [list names] - Contacts I shared with: [list emails if possible] - Any old Dropbox emails/screenshots I still have - Approximate date I created the account: [month/year] I kindly request that you manually verify my account and update the linked email to a new one I control, so I can regain access to my files. Thank you for your assistance, Freddy18Views0likes2CommentsWondering if my inaccessible account still active?
Hi, Iām wondering whether my inaccessible account is still active. I looked around but because Iām feeling anxious I couldnāt find a definite answer, and Iād really like some reassurance. Years ago, my old email was compromised during a time when I was unwell. It was part of a data breach, and in a panic I permanently deleted it (which I know was my own mistake). Today, years later, I suddenly thought about that old email again. Because everything back then was such a blur, I wondered whether I might have had a Dropbox account associated with it. When I tried signing in with the old email and password, it said it sent a code to that old email address, which I can no longer access because it was deleted. Many scenarios playing in my head, like one: I donāt know whether someone might have accessed my Dropbox account and downloaded the app on their phone or computer and itās active? But since the email address itself is no longer active, Iām not sure what happens. I thought inactive accounts were eventually deactivated, or that files might be deleted after a long period of no access, or so Iāve read on here. I really hope thatās the case, especially because I may or may not have stored old sentimental family photos there (itās been years). Again, I fully blame myself. Ive tried the recovery form, and now Iāve contacted support, although from what Iāve read on other forums, itās unlikely they can help if you no longer have access to the associated email (Iām not angry at them). Still, Iām praying and hoping at least that if there were files and photos in them that they would have been deleted by now due to inactivity? Any advice appreciated. - Dropbox Plan - Standard Are you a Team Member or Admin? Not part of a team. Owner of account. Do you have access to the email linked to the account? Hi there! I created a Dropbox account years ago with my college email and have never had an issue getting into my account. Dropbox is now asking me to enter a 6 digit code that is being sent to that college email - Iām assuming because I got a new phone a few months ago. I no longer have access to that email so cannot get the code to login to my Dropbox. I have the correct password and everything, just canāt get that verification email. There is not a customer service phone line unfortunately so Iām not sure how to go about getting into my account! I submitted a form about it but havenāt heard anything back. Has anyone had any experience with finding a solution to this problem?57Views0likes5CommentsI was signed out of my Dropbox account, but now I no longer have access to the email address.
i was sent photos via a dropbox link to my current email address, and as i went to open the email i unintentionally logged out of my dropbox account that was linked with my old college email. the email is no longer active, even if i had the password the email does not exists but i just never logged out of it or synced the account to my current email address. so everything i have been saving has gone to my dropbox account that is linked to my old college email, so it has all of my film photos since i was 22. i just need to get into the old dropbox account to sync the files with my current email! is this possible?41Views0likes1CommentI get an "email taken" error for an email address that's no longer linked to a Dropbox account.

Question or Issue I tried to sign in to my Dropbox account (online, web browser) on a new laptop. I click Log In and get a window that says, "Log in or sign up". But there is no Sign In option, only "Agree and sign up" I tried to log in on 3 different computers and get the same error. I had to sign in with Google to post this. I received the email shown in the screenshot, from mailto:no-reply@em-s.dropbox.com, which I believe is a legitimate Dropbox domain. But the email itself seems sketchy because of the $100 gift card being offered. Any info appreciated.80Views0likes1CommentSomeone accessed my Dropbox account and I can't get help
Dropbox Plan Professional Are you a Team Member or Admin? No Do you have access to the email linked to the account? Yes Are there any devices connected to your Dropbox account? Phone, tablet, work laptop Question or Issue A few days ago, My Dropbox account was hacked by an individual calling themselves Samuel Shimb (see screenshot below). They managed to get access to my account even with 2FA enabled (via SMS)! I want to make people aware of this and the fact that, when I raised this to Dropbox's chat and Support people, they downplayed it and said they's pass it along to their colleagues. Even when I mentioned in my communication with them that I had 2FA enabled, but did not receive any 2FA OTP, in their responses, they still went ahead to say that I must enable 2FA. I have been asking for escalations without any assistance on this matter. I am a paying Dropbox Professional customer, and I want to know how someone accessed my account outside of the normal authentication flow. Even if the hacker managed to obtain my Dropbox password (which I was not using anywhere else by the way), I want to know how they bypassed the 2FA. There were no indications in my GMail inbox of someone trying to reset my Dropbox password (so the hacker did not gain access to my email account first). I was able to login normally using my Dropbox account even after the attack. This has resulted in sensitive information being exposed to an attacker whose intentions I do not know, including work files. However, Dropbox staff have been downplaying this isse. Maybe because this could be a vulnerability on the side of Dropbox and they won't admit that.381Views1like11CommentsDropbox sends the one-time code to an old email address that's not accessible.
I am trying to help my 82 year old uncle figure out why he isn't getting the dropbox codes sent to the correct email address. I do not know what plan he has but can ask if it's necessary to know. So let me explain his situation. He heads up our family history and has everything in Dropbox (duplicates, triplicates š) for the family to access. He said a few years ago it just all of a sudden starting doing the 2 factor authentication. So he let everyone know and said if you need in let me know it's you and I'll give you the authentication code. So that's what we've done. He's always logged in so it doesn't affect him. And he also is accessing it from his hard drive folder and not his phone or computer. For the last couple of weeks I have tried to get in and when I let him know, he never receives the authentication code. We've tried half a dozen times or so with the same result...... no code is ever sent. We tried again today and this time I noticed that it said it was sending the code to an email address and not his phone like it has in the past. The email address is an old one and according to him is not the one that is listed as his address right now. He doesn't know how to access the old email as it's been many years since he used it. I don't understand why it's going to that one when that's not the one that shows for his profile (according to him when he checked his settings today). At this point I was able to help him find the settings and he has turned off the 2 factor authentication. However, when I tried to log in it is 1. still doing the 2 factor authentication and 2. it is still going to the old email address. I did wonder if there's a connection between his old email address still being his login?? As I first said he is 82 and trying to contact support and get help is not very feasible. So I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has had this problem. I saw other posts about not getting the codes but they all seemed to be a little different than his issue. Thank in advance!87Views0likes4Comments
