According to https://help.dropbox.com/account-access/one-time-code there are two versions of the "one time sign-in code" email. They are identical except that one of them includes a link for "I didn't try to sign in," presumably to secure the user's account via resetting one's password and such, while the other simply says "If you didn't try to sign in, don't worry. You can safely ignore this email." Neither the email nor that help page elaborate on why it's safe to ignore the email, though. If I receive an email with a security code and I haven't tried to sign in at all recently, wouldn't it always mean someone else is attempting to sign in to my account? Furthermore, because the code is only sent if you type the correct email and password, wouldn't it mean that this person has my Dropbox account password? I'd think that would always be cause for alarm, even if they weren't actually able to get into the account. So what's the difference? In what circumstances is one of those two emails sent vs the other?Solved1.3KViews0likes3CommentsDropbox password connected device limit error
Dropbox password connected device error. I have 2 device connected to dropbox password. But when i see the setting, it says i have used 3 of 3. I have tried using desktop to use dropbox password. But i have sign out already. But it seems that the connected device still remains 3 of 3. I hardly remove since i can not control the connected device from the settings. Last time i tried to connect another one but error and saw in the setting 4 of 3. Maybe you could fix the connected devide so that will be accurate. Thank you2.4KViews0likes15CommentsI can't access my account's password

Hello! I was wondering if I could get feedback/advice from you guys in the dropbox community. I was already logged into one of my dropbox accounts but decided to log out in order to log in to my other ones. When I did and tried logging back in it asked for authentication which I then tried logging into the emails behind the account but Gmail told me that they have deleted the account. I find this weird as I have tried logging into my accounts in the past and it's never asked me for authentication. This situation has happened to me before back in 2022 but when I tried logging back in the day after it let me in. These accounts have pictures that are very special to me of family including some of those that have passed, along with important documents. I really want to get back in these accounts in order to retrieve all my pictures and just move them all onto another platform since I am always having log in issues with dropbox. Any experience stories and advice is welcome as I am currently panicking. Thanks!1.9KViews0likes11CommentsCan't access main Admin account for Dropbox as email no longer exists
Hi -Our main admin left the company. We had access to her dropbox but the freelance IT guy came in, changed our emails from Fasthosts to another provider and cancelled the Fasthost plans, so that email no longer exists and cant be reinstalled. We now have no access to the admin of this Dropbox account and the IT guy has full access as it looks like he's stored the passwords for when he was accessing stuff through Teamviewer - but we need that to stop immediately as other things have gone on We can access the other account linked but they don't have admin permissions, and so our IT guy has full control of this account and not us?! What can we do?? Thanks2KViews0likes15CommentsStolen mac time-machine disks. What does "localdomain" mean in 'connected devices' list?
Hi I'm bit worried, my mac time machine discs were stolen last week (unencrypted) so I changed my dropbox password (and many others) 10 am this morning, I was prompted to check the devices connected in my dropbox/security because re-logging in means I reached the 3 device limit. I saw a mac I didn’t recognise "ChristopersMBP4.localdomain" is nothing to do with me. I did already change my dropbox password yesterday after the disc was stolen. I normally have a Mac mIni connected which was not listed, so maybe this is an error. However - the list did state "localdomain" I dont know how that differs from ".local" within dropbox - googling's not helping me also - my wifi password was changed earlier this morning. I immediately clicked the bin in dropbox/security to disconnect "ChristopersMBP4.localdomain". My Mini was restarting at the time, when it was done I was asked to log into dropbox. Now the mini is connected as: "neils-mini.local" not ".localdomain" does anyone know what this.localdomain" means please? Am I in trouble? Heres a screenshot with the spurious connected mac. thanks so much NeilSolved2.9KViews0likes19CommentsCan only install with "Run as administrator", possibly causing syncing problems
On Windows 7, my account is the administrator account, yet I could only install dropbox by running the install file 'as administrator' (right-click > Run as Administrator). I received a warning when doing this saying that Dropbox may not work properly but I was forced to ignore it because there was no other way for me to install. When I tried installing normally the install process would just disappear instantly with no error message or explanation. Nothing happened! So now I have it installed and my 'live' folder is not sync'ing to the files on my dropbox account. I suspect this is the problem I was warned about when I had to install 'as Administrator'. Is that likely to be the case? And how in the hell can I install Dropbox normally? I've searched the web and am very surprised not to find a solution to this out there. Surely it can't just be me who's come across this issue.Solved9KViews0likes11CommentsDropbox unnecessarily prompting users to allow system extension while whitelisted on Mac OS
Starting with macOS 10.13.2, Apple gave MDM administrators the ability to automatically whitelist any desired Kernel Extensions so that the user would not be prompted to allow the extension manually. We do this to our machines in the field and, when enabling Smart Sync, Dropbox does not seem to notice that it's extension is already whitelisted. The user is still prompted to Manually Allow the Dropbox System Extension which they can't do because the extension has already been allowed (the option to manually allow doesn't show up in System Preferences). This puts them in a situation where they can only enable Smart Sync by canceling the Allow System Extension Prompt from Dropbox and clicking that they don't want to use Smart Sync, and then going into the Dropbox app settings and enabling Smart Sync in there. Please fix this so that Dropbox can notice that it's system extension is already approved and not prompt to user to allow it.Solved6.6KViews0likes9Comments
