So I have a 150gb music library on dropbox - one main folder with many subfolders etc. I have a new PC and want that music folder and dropbox app on the new PC. I don't want to use all my internet (limited mobile data) so I manually copy the folder to an external drive then into the new PC's dropbox folder (over the top of the same one the new pc dropbox install made). Same folder structure etc on both machines. It's not uploading files - just seems to be indexing. WHHHHHYYY is it taking hours and hours to index sync this folder? It says in the app will take 15 days to sync lol. I'm having a flash back of doing this before and I had to pretty much disable dropbox and only run it at night when I was sleeping and it took weeks to finish. That was years ago I was hoping for a better experience this time around. Was there a better way to do this? Any help appreciated.50Views0likes4CommentsDropbox indexing freezes on my machine
Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Window 11 currently uptodate Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 239.4.8301 Syncing Status frozen Question or Issue I've had this issue for months now anytime the computer it turned off or goes to sleep. Dropbox is not available on the computer when indexing freezes. The only way to access dropbox is on the web. Hovering over the dropbox icon just shows the version number 239.4.8301 and indexing 1,391 files with nothing changing even after hours. No option to open dropbox and nothing happens when clicking on the icon. I have to force quit dropbox processes, usually 9 of them plus the dropbox service process. When I run dropbox again if starts all over and sometimes finishes indexing and other times just freezes a some random number of files to index, is not the same number every time. This was never an issue until several months ago. I've had a paid dropbox account for years and never had any issues until this issue started. It keeps new files from syncing across devices since nothing is updated to the web from or to the computer where the indexing has frozen and I have to manually check to see if frozen. Unfortunately if I can't find a fix, I'll have to look for other options. At this point I never know if the files are current in dropbox or not.39Views0likes2CommentsApp keeps indexing after moving Dropbox folder with over 1 TB from one disk to another
Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 10 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 239.4.8301 Syncing Status Indexing - formerly "Synching" Question or Issue I wanted to move the Dropbox to a new larger SSD. Step 1: Copied with Teracopy all Files to new disk, stopped Dropbox, renamed the drive-name of the Disks - new Disk to F:\\Dropbox\Dropbox - the usual path. Dropbox tried to resynchronize for days, so I stopped. Btw: I also stopped the Windows Antimalware Realtime Protection to support the performance Step 2: I relocated the old smaller SSD, everything was fine Step 3: I tried the built-in tool "move Dropbox" - it stopped several times to an "unknown error" Step 3: I used robocopy to copy again to the new Disk to preserve Time-Stamps. Renamed the Drive-Name to F:\\ - on the first glance everything looked fine. But now, Dropbox is re-indexing again. Taking some time right now. What did I do wrong and/or what could I do better? Thx, RobertSolved69Views0likes4CommentsMy Windows desktop app can't sync 19 files (I'm asked to give permission for access).
Device Lenovo desktop) Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 automatically updated, Chrome Browser also updated automatically Dropbox App Version/Browser Version 238.4.6305 updated regularly Question or Issue Dropbox recently had a "disagreement" with One Drive following a Microsoft update and was unable to sync some files. I have uninstalled One-Drive and everything now appears to be syncing properly except for 19 files which return the result below. All appear to be programmes but I have no idea how to grant the necessary permission or even if it is necessary to back up these items. I have tried browsing the forum but cannot find a simple solution there or in the "help" menu. How do i resolve this problem?64Views0likes2CommentsThe desktop app suddenly "downloading" 500 files forever and not making any progress
Device Ryzen 7 5800 CPU, 32 GB DDR4 RAM, Dropbox folder is on a 1TB SSD, 26 GB of Dropbox storage. Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 10 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 238.4.6305 Syncing Status "Downloading" Question or Issue Since yesterday, my dropbox desktop app has been stuck "downloading" 580 files, making no progress at all and using 10-20% CPU usage indefinitely. I have tried pausing, unpausing, restarting the app, and rebooting my computer, to no avail. The diagnostics from clicking "Sync & Storage" shows 0 sync issues. Is there something wrong with the servers?Solved85Views0likes9CommentsWhat are the steps to sync files to a new PC with Windows 11?
Device Windows 11 (New Laptop) I got a new Windows 11 machine. Before I make the switch I wanted to make sure I've got the steps to easily sync my files onto the new machine. Please comment on my expected steps below. Pause syncing on old machine. Install DB on new machine, sign in and sync FROM DB. (would this be a "restore")? Once files are confirmed I can uninstall DB from old machine and wipe the drive. This seems too simple. Am I missing any little nuance somewhere?66Views0likes1CommentDropbox folder missing from indexed locations for searching on Windows 10
Device HP Desktop Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 10 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 238.4.6075 Syncing Status Up To Date Question or Issue I've not been able to find documents using search in my dropbox folder for a few weeks. I went to indexing options to remove dropbox from indexing and re-add it hoping it would rebuild the index. IT'S NOT THERE TO SELECT AT ALL!! I have my dropbox as a fold in Documents. When I go to C Users Myname Documents, dropbox is not there. I've right clicked the folder and in properties, went to advanced, UNCHECKED allow this folder to have contents indexed and applied that. Then I went back and checked it so they could be indexed and applied that. Dropbox is still not in the indexing options list of folders.361Views1like29CommentsDesktop App stuck on "Updating Dropbox account..."
Hello, I logged on this morning to find that my desktop app (Windows 10) for Dropbox is stuck on "Updating Dropbox Account..." and won't budge. I even attempted to re-install Dropbox, and that didn't work. Can someone help me with this, please? Thanks, AimeeSolved15KViews2likes30CommentsOnly want to sync specific folders synced on my other device.
I have all my files in Dropbox on my PC. I want to "some" of them, not all of them on my laptop. When I downloaded Dropbox on the laptop, I ended with "all" files on the laptop. Can someone please let me know how to remove those files I don't want on the laptop? Or do I have to start all over? And then if I have to start all over, how do I only get the files I want? Thank you!14KViews2likes6Comments
