Clear Version History and File Activity

I would like to clear all the Version History and Activity on our Shared Folders under Dropbox Business Plan.  We are using GoodSync to move all the files to Teams and GoodSync is dating the files using the date from the Version History or Activity if one exists.  (Goodsync believes it is doing a favor to use this date but in my situation, it does not help).  Through the years, many users would inadvertently move a folder within Dropbox elsewhere on their laptop and once they realize it, do a Ctrl-Z to "undo".  Well Dropbox would set the version history date as the date the file was moved back into Dropbox though the Date column in Windows and in the DB Web App showed the original file date.

Anyway, all the Version History and Activity is useless to me now and I want the files to appear in Teams/Sharepoint with the same date as in the Dropbox Windows folder and Web App.

How do I clear all the Version History and Activity?

There is no option to do that.

    Hi prsny,

Your issue description does lead to conclusion that the service you're using is somewhat buggy. Since the correct time shows up within your file manager and the web interface of Dropbox, all needed is there and even if you have been able to clear your version history and activity, it wouldn't likely something to change. Dropbox keeps 2 modification moments actually. One is the moment of last change performed on particular file on Dropbox server (including upload new file, get back some file - as you described, change something, etc.). This timestamp is automatically generated by Dropbox server and is always the actual moment of the change as appear on the server (not on the client machine)! It cannot be changed/controlled in any way, but can only be accessible as a reference data to every Dropbox application (including external, as the one you're trying). Such time is NOT intended to be shown to the end user in any way, it's for internal usage of the used application only! Other timestamp, kept by Dropbox, is so called client time. That's the time you can see in your file manager and web interface (and as an idea everywhere else). This time moment can be tuned on actual file change time when file uploads/changes and is usually done automatically by your local Dropbox application. This timestamp is intended for use when a file is accessed by any application/service (again, including external). Clearing any versions, etc. won't change this!

Ask your application support for fix this issue (wrong timestamp usage - bug actually). 😉 Only they can do that (if they want to, of course).

    Good luck.
