Recently added files do not show up as recent (but are visible when I drill down)

Did what Evan suggested...
Follow a folder
- checked and I am already following the folder in question, so nothing for me to do
Change folder notification preferences
- when I follow these instructions, I see they do not match dropbox.com
- specifically, when I pull down the ellipsis, I do not see "Following" as an option (screenshot of what I *do* see is attached)
We've solved the problem by just emailing each other when we make changes. It's annoying, but it works.
