Saving documents from Dropbox to my computer
I have searched for how to save a document from dropbox to my computer and it says download as first step but I don't have that as an option for "save as". Only option under save as is to "rename file"...
Help please.
That depends on what you want to do, lebe.
More specifically, if you want to have:
- A separate copy of the file with only your edits, then yes, you'll have to download and re-upload it to the shared folder.
- Only one file with everyone's edits, those should be automatically applied, so you shouldn't have to download and re-upload the file.
Let me know what you find or if you have any other questions!

Hi there lebe, welcome to the Dropbox Community!
To download a file from the website:
- Click on the Files tab on the left hand side of your screen.
- Locate the file you want to download.
- Click on the ellipsis (...) icon that's on the right side of the file.
- Select Download.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for getting back to me, lebe.
Are you referring to where it's being downloaded? Could you please send me a screenshot (without personal info) of this so that I have a better visual understanding?
Keep me posted!

It is an excel document that was uploaded by someone else on the file authorization. I made some modifications and it says it is saved to dropbox but can't find it in any files.
The excel has names, ss#'s, dates of birth etc... so can't do a screenshot...
It says it is saved on the excel top "ribbon" after the file name and also at the bottom of the screen it says "saved to dropbox"...

Thanks for the additional info, lebe.
If this is a file in a shared folder, you should be able to find it by going through the shared folder in question, which should be under your Files tab on the website.
If you don't find it but you remember the name, could you try searching for it in your search bar?
If you're still having trouble locating it, could you please clarify what you mean when you mention that:

did the search and found the document; then downloaded and then uploaded to shared file...
Is that really the way this is supposed to be done?
I really appreciate your helping me thru this learning curve!!

- Odeyan5 years agoNew member | Level 2Can someone assist me? I’m having trouble with filling out a document that’s saved in Dropbox, without losing all the data on it.
For some strange reason, it’s not allowing me to save the information or it’s saying that it can’t be saved.
Thank you in advance!

Hey Odeyan, I'd be happy to help!
Is this document that you're trying to edit a personal file or was it shared with you?
If you could also send us a screenshot of the exact error message, that would be very helpful.
Thanks!
