Suddenly can't access files I've been using for years on Dropbox

Word Files saved to dropbox are not accessible as Word documents - Error indicates they may be corrupt.  I have to go into dropbox.com to open them.  Then must download and make editable.  What's going on?

    Can you please clarify your device's OS version and send me a screenshot of the exact error you're getting when trying to open your MS Word docs?
