Hi @plsimpson59, thanks for messaging the Community!
You can check the total amount of quota on your account here to see how much you're using from your total.
If you need to delete files from your account, you can do it online and via your computer from the Dropbox folder, if the Dropbox desktop application is installed and syncing.
If you need any more details, feel free to message back!

I have tried moving the dropbox files to a desktop folder, but they stay in the dropbox. What is the solution without upgrading?

Hi Ks113, let's jump right into this!
What is the app's syncing status, after you moved the files to your desktop? I'm asking, in case the app hasn't updated, in order to free up space yet.
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

The syncing status is that the dropbox is full. I have backed up all of the files in the box, and just want to delete them, but am blocked by a window urging me to upgrade.

Hi Ks113, what happens if you attempt to move files from the Dropbox folder in Explorer/Finder to another location on your computer? There shouldn't be any prompts regarding an upgrade which would prevent this move.

I tried that, Jan, but I didn't empty the dropbox. The files just duplicated to the desktop folder I created to delete them.

Hey Ks113, if you created a copy of your Dropbox files, you've made sure that the copying process is complete and you can access/open those copies as normal, you should be able to just delete the files from the Dropbox folder.
If your Dropbox application is syncing correctly, after you've deleted them from the Dropbox folder, they'll get deleted from your Dropbox account online as well.

Similar to the other users with issues and their account being full
I do not regularly use dropbox, other than when people send me something to view.
There was one folder of a bunch of pictures that was 'shared' with me and I guess I saved it or something because it said I was the only one, so I have deleted that, and I had another file of an ebook. I have deleted all of those from my account as well.
STILL AT 3GB and over storage.
How long does it take to refresh?
And is dropbox counting the cumulative of shared files dating back a decade to count my quota?
I have seen suggestions to leave shared folders, but don't seem to have that option in my account in those folders.
Why is it if someone shares a file from their dropbox it counts as the quota in mine? Onedrive, GoogleDrive don't do that.
It is very frustrating and I don't want to pay $120 to just look at someone's elses file now and then.
AND there doesn't seem to be a way to account for the 3G I supposedly am using - Walter3 years ago

Hey karenrands, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Can you please let us know what exactly is reported in your plan tab in regards to your quota?
Do you see any files or folders taking up space in your homepage or the backups page perhaps?
