I'm being asked to save a copy of my Excel file instead of the original file on mobile.
I have a spreadsheer in a shared Dropbox folder and I am the only person with editor access to it.
When I open it on my desktop it saves fine, but when I open it on my mobile it tries to save a copy even though it definitley isn't open on my desktop at the tme. I don't want to save a copy. I just want to be able to make changes to the file on my mobile as well as on my desktop, and to save the file - not a copy - on either platform. Is this impossible?

Hey Dave_Rado, thanks for reaching out to us.
Are you using an Android or an iOS device?
Can you let us know exactly what you see when you open the file from the Dropbox mobile app?
A screenshot of the message would be helpful, if you can send us one.
Cheers.

Hi @Hannah
Android. Screenshot here.
That's when I try to save it. When I open it, it just looks like any other spreadsheet.

Would you mind attaching the screenshot to your reply, Dave? For security reasons we can't access the link above, I'm afraid.

I'm afraid the image isn't loading for us, Dave, it looks broken. 😕
If you're on your mobile device, I'd suggest requesting the desktop version of the site, to see the upload button to attach the screenshot.

I'm on a desktop computer running Windows 10 and the image looks perfect on my screen. I can't see an upload button. I used the "Insert Image" button to insert it, which is the only button I can see that looks relevant apart from the "insert link" button that I used previously.
Here it is again:

Thanks, Dave, it still looks broken on our end, so perhaps we can get back to the screenshot later.
For now, can you let me know which Android version and which Dropbox version you're using?
Also, are you simply opening the file to preview it within the Dropbox app or are you opening the file with the Excel app?

Obviously I'm opening in Excel or rather Office - you can't edit in preview mode. - Nancy11 months ago

Hi from me too, Dave_Rado. I tested this on my end and it seems to be working properly (meaning, I’m not asked to save as a copy).
Have you tried reinstalling both the Dropbox app on your mobile device so far, as well as the Microsoft Excel app? I’d like to see if that’ll make any difference.
Finally, since I’m also unable to see your screenshots above, can you make sure there’s no personal info showing (like email addresses, etc)? If there is, please hide it or remove the screenshot, so that it’s not publicly visible.
