Logged into my account and all my files are missing

I've had a drop box subscription for a few years and at renewal, December 1st, 2022, I upgraded to DropBox Plus. Last week I had a blue-screen issue on my Desktop and took it to a repairman. He saved, documents, then (I suppose) cleared the hard drive, and then he reloaded Windows Home 10. When I got my computer back, I noticed I was missing programs - Reaper and Bluebeam. I was annoyed but not too concerned because I had purchase receipts and licenses stored in Dropbox. Then I noticed that Drop Box desktop short-cut was missing. I tried to log-in to DropBox but couldn't remember my password, so the DropBox Chat agent or bot sent me a password reset link. I used that to open DropBox, but all my files are missing. I paid a full year subscription in advance expecting secure cloud storage, but all my stored documents are gone  ... very important documents for which there are no or very limited hard copies. Does anyone know how I can recover my old account? Because it looks like my password reset started a new account.

Hey lt6, sorry to see that you're having this issue.

Why were you not able to login to your account initially? Did you get some kind of error message?

Also, when was the last time you accessed your account before today?

Hi Hannah, it’s been a few months since I’ve last logged in. I entered my password, but I got an error that the password was incorrect. I reset my password with the email, and when I was able to log in, all of the files that were there before were all gone. 😞

    Thanks for the update, lt6.

Do you remember if you manually reset your password yourself or if you were perhaps prompted to create a new account?

I manually reset the password myself. Is there a way to get my old account back?

There is no activity there, except that I added the Dropbox app yesterday.

lt6, do you remember if it had been more than 12 months since the last time you accessed your Dropbox account? If it had, the account could’ve been possibly disabled due to inactivity, in which case there’s not much that can be done, I’m afraid.

It may have been more than a year since I logged in. I received no emails about my account getting deleted for inactivity, or else I would have logged in. I lost a lot of very important files. This infuriates me.

I logged into my account using my google account and my files are no longer in my dropbox. Why was there no prior notice sent, in case it was deleted?

When was the last time you accessed your account, and have you always signed in with Google, or did you previously sign in with your email and password?
