A link is generated but I'm getting an "Unable to copy link" error on my Mac.
Hi there!
I am having this same issue on multiple files and folders currently - the link is generated but says "Unable to copy link" when I try and use it. I have restarted my mac and dropbox, and I have 2,3 terrabytes used out of 3available so this is not a space issue. The files are images so not overly large.
Any help appreciated!
Hey AnnieJ!
If you haven’t tried this already, can you relaunch your Finder with these steps and let me know if the behavior remains the same?
If this doesn't work, please try to quit and relaunch the Dropbox app as the next step. Have you also restarted your device since the issue started?

Hi there AnnieJ and welcome back to the Dropbox Community! 😊
I’m Theresa 👩💻, one of the community managers here at Dropbox HQ. It’s great to have you here, and I am glad to see your issue has been resolved.
Thanks so much for coming back to update the thread — it really helps others who might run into the same behaviour!
I’d love to know...what’s your favourite Dropbox feature? Whether it’s file sharing, Smart Sync, mobile access, or something else entirely, I always enjoy hearing what people find most useful.
Looking forward to hearing more,

Hi Megan!
I had restarted both DropBox and my machine, with no luck so I redid them all again as well as the Finder relaunch and it looks like I have the DropBox menu back. 😊
thanks so much for the help!

Hey Hannah,
Dropbox is definitely running on my computer and says it's up to date:
Very strange!

Thanks for those screenshots, Annie, very helpful!
So, it looks like the Dropbox options are missing in general, not just the sharing ones.
Is the Dropbox app running on your computer and syncing as normal?
What do you see when you hover over the small Dropbox icon in your menu bar?

Hey Hannah!
Sure, please see attached - these are the only options I'm getting on right click or from any menus.
And the "Share" options are shown in the second screenshot.
It's the same menu I get when files are NOT in dropbox, none of the DropBox options are available despite the fact that all my active folders live permanently within DropBox.
thanks!

Hey AnnieJ, sorry to hear that!
Just so we can have a visual, can you please send us a screenshot of how things look on your end?

Hi team!
Happy 2026.
I'm not sure what happened in the interface updates or elsewhere, but I now cannot share anything! I have logged out and in again, and I'm only getting the social sharing option, no file share or link creation options at all.
Please help!
thanks,
Annie.

Hey Megan!
That seems to have worked - I've logged back in and could create a link now. 🙃
I had tried this previously with no luck, and out of interest the animation on the "creating a link" thinking loop has now reverted to what it was before. It stopped working when the new animation and the three blocks graphic including the QR code link was happening, so perhaps there was a glitch in that update?
Either way, thank you so much for the assistance, it is much appreciated!
Have a wonderful festive season 🌻
Annie.
