Solved

Can't add a file inside a shared folder when using the desktop app. It says I need permission.

I am the owner of a shared folder that is available on my desktop.  However, I cannot add any files to that folder.  I get an error that I don't have permission.  However, I can add files to that folder when I'm on the web.

  • Problem solved.  Turned out that the Permission for Everyone for this folder was set to Deny rather than Allow.  Changed to Allow and now everything is working OK.  I found another folder with the same problem, although most were OK.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Hey wwaag76, happy Friday. I hope you're doing well.

Would you be able to send me a screenshot of the error you get on the desktop app when trying to add content in that folder?

Do you recall if you could upload files that way before, or is it a new folder?

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

How do you add a photo?  I don't see any options to upload.

I can create a new DropBox folder and add files, which are then uploaded OK.  Actually, this is my workaround.  Add files to new folder which is uploaded Ok and then copy to the folder that is locked on my Desktop.

Hey wwaag76, you should be able to click the camera icon when replying back to me, and attach your screenshots that way.

Otherwise, feel free to copy and paste it back to me.

Copy/paste worked.  There is no camera icon in the reply dialog.

    Thanks for the screenshot wwaag76!

That's odd, especially since you're able to add content to the folder when using our website.

I'm thinking that this might have to do something with the local permissions of this folder, and not necessarily with Dropbox.

I did some research and found some steps that might resolve it. You can have a look here.

I'll be waiting for your update!
