Do we all need to upgrade to have access to the space when using a shared folder?

Keep in mind that when joining a shared folder, you basically add a copy of it to your Dropbox account, which is why it takes up space like any other personal file would. You can read more about this here.
Therefore you'd need to upgrade both the sender's Dropbox account, along with the members' of the shared folder.
If you mostly need view-only access to the folder in question, the owner can send you a shared link instead, so that you donât have to add it to your Dropbox account at all.
You wouldn't be able to edit the folder's content though.
