Dropbox desktop app on Mac not syncing 1.8 GB worth of data.
Hello,
I’ve been a Dropbox user for many years and have always been very satisfied with your service. However, for the past few days my Dropbox app on macOS has been stuck syncing around 1.8 GB of data (approximately 2,900 files).
I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app twice, but the problem persists—and indeed seems to have worsened, as now the entire Dropbox folder is syncing extremely slowly. New files aren’t uploading at all.
For reference, I’m using a MacBook Pro (2017) running macOS Big Sur (version 11.7.10).
Could you please advise on any further steps I can take to resolve this? I’m happy to provide additional details if that would help.
Thank you very much for your assistance.

Hey fooosco, welcome to our Community!
Could you hover your mouse over the little Dropbox icon on your menu bar, next to your WiFi and clarify the app version you're using, along with its current syncing status?
I’d also like you to right-click on your local Dropbox folder directly, select “Get info” and send me a screenshot of the next window you’ll see.
Keep me posted!

Hello, thanks for your reply.
Here's the info. Dropbox app version: 221.4.5365.
Indexing 50 files.
Uploading 458 files.
Downloading 2463 files.
And here's the screenshot as well.

You arent using any symlinks or junctions are you?
Are any of the files open?

About symlinks or junctions: not that I know of.
Regarding the files, I forgot to mention that the syncing list includes a lot of .jpg files that don’t actually exist on my laptop. I tried re-indexing the hard drive to see if it was a macOS error, but those files are still not visible. Please see the attached screenshot.

Hey fooosco, thanks for the info!
Can you also try downloading and updating to our latest stable build (222.4.5042)?
Do these indexing, uploading and downloading numbers remain stuck, or not?
Do you happen to have a rough estimate of the amount of files in your Dropbox folder? Could they be more than 300K, which is the soft limit of our app?

The indexing is not reported anymore, uploading is 459, while downloading is still 2463.
I am not sure how to calculate or estimate the amount of files.
I'll try and update to the latest stable build

I've just updated to that build, and it looks like it's behaving the same way...

Another thing I just noticed while hovering over the Dropbox icon: the syncing speed is abysmally slow — around 33 KB/sec... (this data doesn't always show up). I guess that's the reason of the stuck syncing

Let's try a couple of things, to see if they're going to remedy this fooosco.
Can you try temporarily signing out of the app, and then back in?
After that, I'd also suggest that you adjust the app's bandwidth limit to "Don't Limit" to allow Dropbox to use as much as possible. That should hopefully make the app sync faster.
I'll be waiting for your updates!

Hello Megan,
I've signed out and logged in again — it's now indexing. I'll let you know when it's over.
As for the app's bandwidth limit, it was already set up without any restrictions.
