I can't access my backup files, after Dropbox asked for a backup update
Since clicking on the file backup link that Dropbox sent me today, Dropbox is not featuring any of the files that I have on my PC. I use my Dropbox account on my PC, my iphone and my ipad. This one account allows me to see all my PC files across all my devices. But since clicking on the backup link DB sent me, there are none of my PC files appearing in my Dropbox account either on the web portal, nor on my files area of my PC or on the app on my iphone and ipad. This means I cannot get access to any important files while away from my PC until I can restore them to Dropbox. Very urgent! I am lost without my files and cannot work! Really hoping some clever person can help me please!

Hi cbshaffer, you can disable the Dropbox Backup by following these steps. This way the files will return to their normal locations, and then you can continue to use Dropbox using the normal method, by moving files into the Dropbox folder as needed.

Thank you, Jay. When I move the files to the Dropbox folder, I can access them from other devices. phew! However, they are not on my laptop any more. Yes, they are available offline line on Dropbox, but something has changed. I used to be able to have them on my laptop AND they would be synced on Dropbox. I would like to be able to keep my files on my own laptop and have Dropbox sync for back up (with access to all devices). Is this possible? If not, why not? What are the other options? Thanks again for your help! 🙂

Any files in the Dropbox folder should be synced to the site. Are you referring to files in another non-Dropbox folder?

It's confusing. I see two Dropbox files in my File Explorer. One has a green circle with a check mark on the blue DB icon (in the folder that is the name of my computer) and the other DB folder is at the top and doesn't have a green circle (it's in the Desktop folder). They both have the same few files in them. Which one do I put the files in that I what to sync.
I also see my Documents folders in the same two folders (Desktop and the name of my laptop). So which Documents folder do I move to which Dropbox folder? - Walter2 years ago

Hey cbshaffer - sorry to jump in here, but could you maybe send us a couple of screenshots to make sure we're on the same page?

I have similar issues. My family was using mobiles to access what they have on the computers, now it is gone. Working with Backups is no-go, and I didn't find an option to move Downloads and other folders from MAC to Dropbox to sync them - Mac keeps overriding them. This would be a great workaround - backup is backup, sync is sync.

Hi,
this is connected to new BACKUP option which actually an aphasia.
When new Backup is enabled, your Desktop/Documents/Downloads folder from MAC are unable to sync.
My Family was using Dropbox Mobile app to access whatever they had on the computer, and now this option is gone.
This is something that is really needed and I need to find a solution.
If backup is backup, please enable those folders to sync - right now it is not possible. You need to create a separate folder on Dropbox to sync.
But this is not what it was before.
Please restore or enable this option!
