I copied files in the the Dropbox folder, but once I update an Excel file, it's not updated.

Hello,
I copied files and folders in the Windows Explorer from my local folder to the Dropbox folder.

The files/folders got uploaded ones, but after I updated an Excel-file which I opened from my local folder, the file was not updated/synchronised in the Dropbox-folder.

What do I need to do? Or what did I do wrong?

My understanding is that files and foldes are synchronised automatically.

Somehow this does not work.

Thanks for your help

Lars

    Hi Lars

I'm afraid your understanding is a bit mixed up - there is no link between folders in other locations and Dropbox.

You need to work on the files and folders in Dropbox for them to sync with Dropbox. Note that they will not then copy back to other locations.

The best thing to do is to move things from your other locations to Dropbox and just update the saving paths in applications to reflect this

      Hi Mark,
      thanks for your feedback.
You are right, that I mixed up things. I recognized it during the week when working with Dropbox 🙂
I just do not understand what you mean by "and just update the saving paths in applications to reflect this".
      Best regards
      Lars

Basically, move the file to Dropbox and open it from there directly instead of your local folder. If you have any applications that look back to the local folder to find your file, update them to look to the Dropbox folder instead.
