Solved

I've set passwords for my shared links, but non team members don't get asked for one.

I have set passwords on folders I need to share with people who are not team members. (added a password to editing dan viewing links and saved it)

When I test this it by sending the link to an email address not part of the team it does not ask for a password.

Any suggestions?

I figured it out. The folders were set to share with Team Members. I changed the Who has access to "Anyone with link".

I'm still perplexed about how the other user had access through the link and then got the error message. I changed that folder to "anyone with link" and it works.

Hey Trish S.2 - sorry to hear about this.

Could you let us know some additional information so that we can assist further?

For example, what are the exact steps you take to do this? Are you using an individual account or are you part of a team account perhaps?

In DB web, for Folder I want to Share with Password for Viewing Only ... I did these steps:

    Clicked on Folder to share

    Clicked on SHARE button

In Settings in 'Link for Viewing', I set my Password and clicked "Only people invited"

    Clicked Share again

    Added new person's email address

    Added note to person

Hit SHARE again to send to them

When I tested on my husband, he was not able to open/access this Folder ... with or without password

Hey Trish S.2, what kind of error did your husband get when he tried to access the folder?

When he Clicks on Add to Dropbox in email from me, it asks for Login ... not the Folder Secure Password which I put on the Folder!

    So he cannot access Folder

Thats because you've given him edit access. The only way to have edit access on a folder is with a valid Dropbox account (so that it knows who is editing it). Turn that off and send him a LINK instead of a shared folder and it should work fine 🙂
