My backup is stuck on the last 1% of syncing

I have a backup that is stuck on the last 1% of syncing. I have paused and restarted the sync, restarted my computer, cleared the dropbox cache, and cant figure out why it wont finish.  Dropbox support is telling me it's because certain filenames are formatted incorrectly so those files affected won't sync.  Problem is, I can't rename these files because they are all referenced by Pro Tools.  If I went through and renamed the affected files, this would make the backup completely useless to me in the first place.  The drive is formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  To make matters worse, the Dropbox desktop app for Mac does NOT tell you which files are the culprits, so you are left just watching an endless sync that goes nowhere.

You would think in 2023 simply making a cloud backup of one of your external drives would be straightforward.  I wish Dropbox wouldn't make the claim that they are a service that can effectively do it.  I wasted an entire night and half of a work day trying to get this up and running.  Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for these screenshots, wailnguitars; they really help.

If you open your local Dropbox folder, do you see any files/folders that have syncing icons next to them? You can also attach a screenshot of what you see here.

Since your web Backups page appears to be up to date, I’d like to make sure there isn’t something else currently updating on your Dropbox account.

There are no files or folders in my local Dropbox folder that have syncing icons next to them.  But, oddly enough, it is showing that the backup completed.  It shows that it is "Done" on the website and also the drop-down window in the menu bar also shows that it is done syncing.

However, there is 673.57GB used on the external drive I am backing up, and it says Dropbox has backed up 626.35GB.  Are these backups being compressed before being uploaded?  Not sure why almost 50GB would be missing. Nancy Megan Hannah

It shouldn't compress any of the content, no wailnguitars

However, I'm wondering if all of the files inside your Backup are synced locally. When you open your Backup, what kind of icons do you see next to your files/folders?

I'm backing up an external drive that is not a part of my Dropbox folder, so there are no icons next to the files/folders.  Are there supposed to be?

Hi again, wailnguitars! If you haven’t seen any progress during the weekend, can we log a ticket for you, and investigate internally?
