Where is the camera uploads setting to change .heic to .jpg on iOS?
I have been using Dropbox for a long time. It worked I never had to change anything from my initial setup. On going from Windows 10 to 11 my camera uploads changed from .jpg to .heic.
Most of my use for Dropbox is uploading photos from my iPhone. I have searched through the setting menus on the Desktop App, the taskbar as Dropbox is always open and the web. I can't find the thing. Where is this camera setting?

Hey stevethegil, thanks for posting your question to our Community!
The setting in question will be found in the Camera Uploads settings on your phone, you won't find it on the desktop app.
To find it, open the Dropbox app, tap on "account" and then tap on "Camera Uploads".
Check if that makes a difference for you and let us know.
Thanks.

Are you using the Camera Uploads function in the app on your phone, or by plugging your phone into your computer and having the desktop app handle Camera Uploads?
If the Dropbox app on your phone is doing the upload, then tap the Account tab, then Camera Uploads, and the setting is at the bottom of the list. Note that upgrading from Windows 10 to 11 wouldn't change this setting in the app on your phone.

I have no Dropbox on my phone. I just upgraded my iPhone from a 7Plus to the flagship 16 Pro Max. I thought it was about time. No iOS update was limiting me. I just checked my old phone no Dropbox there either.

There is no Dropbox on the phone. PC detects connection and uploads photos. Had been doing that for years. The App still connects and uploads in .heic not .jpg. I want to upload photos in .jpg.

HI stevethegil, as you're connecting the phone to your machine, you'll need to change the format using your iOS settings.
This article provides the steps on how to make this change.

It is screwed up. After doing the things in the article, I found that old photos in my camera upload folder were changed to .heic when originally .jpeg. I deleted everything in the folder, knowing I could get them back from iCloud. I change a setting in to New Photos and for some unknown reason it choose to upload some old photos in still .heic and some .png and .jpeg, mostly corrupt that could not be read in Windows. I cannot delete easily as something about being open in com surrogate. It ain't right.

Hey stevethegil, do you mean that after changing the settings in the article that Jay provided, the already uploaded photos were automatically converted from .jpg to .heic?
Is this what you see in your account online as well?
If so, you can use these steps to convert them back to your desired file type.

Yes they changed from .jpg to .heic. Too late to convert as I deleted and got images back through iCloud.
I have Photos/Transfer to PC or Mac set to automatic and as you can see in Camera Uploads/Save HEIC photos as JPG. I recently took photos and connected to PC and they uploaded as .heic. Yes, they show in the web as .heic in the second screenshot.
I went further and tried changing format and it was easy. It asked whether I wanted automatic processing, I took the option. I took more test photos. Now I am getting both copies in .heic and .jpg. It is not what I had before. It seemed I got files directly from the iPhone in .jpg. I never had to use any setting on the web.

To do the above I had to install Dropbox app on my iPhone.
