Getting messages that my storage is full - but it isn't

My dropbox capacity is 5GB. I cleared several items out of DB down to about 1GB. And yet, I still get incessant messages that I'm at 105% capacity (which I am not). I'm also not running any automatic file back-ups.

Pardon my paranoia but this feels like ruse to get me to upgrade?

Hi there, greg Fulton, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Are you getting notifications about your space within your account, at the bell icon? Or are they email notifications?

If they are emails, try double-checking which email address they're going to. Is it the same as the one you're using on your Dropbox account?

Also, please send us a screenshot of what you see in your plan page here.

    Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your fast reply. After clearing out many files there was a folder that was shared with me the had large video files. However, in the window on my desktop next to it was an icon (cloud with down-arrow). I assumed this meant that file was not taking up space. However, I pulled that folder down from DB and that seems to have cleared up space.

It’s a little bit confusing tbh: on my Mac the file size of my DB folder indicates it’s at 110.2MB but in the browser DB indicates the folder is at 2.56 GB. It’s confusing bc there’s not much content other than pdf’s.

    Thsnk you for the consideration

    Thanks for the update, Greg.

So, in this case, was it a Dropbox space issue or a hard drive space issue? I'm not entirely clear on that.

Regarding your Dropbox files, you can follow these steps to see their size in your account online, so you know which files are taking up your space.

It was an issue with space on Dropbox. In the app I received pop-up like messages saying I was using 104% of my storage on Dropbox. Rather the being led to find solutions to clearing up the issue, DB kept pointing me to a page with options to upgrade.  It felt a little predatory tbh

thanks for the link. I’ll take a look tmr.

That icon means it's not taking up space on your local drive, but it still takes up space in your account. Any shared folders that you're a member of exist in your account, so they take up space in your account.
