I lost 3GB of storage after my account was supposedly converted back to Basic.
Hi, I've had a Basic plan with 10.4GB of storage for years. I got an unexpected email yesterday saying I'm "back on Dropbox Basic" because my admin took no action on a free trial. I didn't sign up fo...

Can you let me know what changed with my account lately? I believe I have been on the same plan basically forever, and had more than 3 devices until recently. Thanks.

10 months agoHey bnehring, when did you first notice this change? Right when the reduction of your space happened?
And have you taken a look at your emails from Dropbox, to see if you've received any related communication?

I believe it coincided with my loss of space. I have received no emails that I can find about any of this. I was apparently involved with a trial business account, but that was a separate Dropbox account with a separate email, and that trial stopped long ago. Maybe the business closed the account recently, or it was closed from the Dropbox side, but it seems like it should have been unrelated because it’s a separate account. My guess is that they were intertwined somehow.
What counts as a device? Do mobile devices count? If so, then I have always been over the limit of 3. I have 3-4 PCs, and an iPhone and iPad, all on the same Dropbox account. I’ve never had a problem adding new devices until very recently, when this storage was reduced as well. - bnehring10 months agoNew member | Level 1
Recently - I got a new PC in January, and successfully linked it. My current active devices are over 3. If the limit has always been 3, how is this possible?

I also got an iPad last summer in June, and had no problem adding it. That was an additional device that was not replacing any existing devices.

Previously there was no device limit on the Basic plan. That changed about six years ago (March 2019) when the limit changed to three.
If you had more than three devices connected before the limit changed, they would remain connected. You just wouldn't be able to add more devices (or re-add a removed device) until you were back below the new limit.
If you were on a paid plan or were a member of a team account, you would have been able to add unlimited devices to your account, and those devices would remain connected even if you left the team and were downgraded back to Basic.

Thank you for the info. I believe what happened is this team account theory. But this account should have always been Basic, and a separate account was used on a Team. Also, that Tram account had been inactive for a number of years. Is there a way for you to look at my specific account and find out what happened? My Basic account drastically changed very recently with no notice, and I’m trying to figure out what happened.
