My storage space has been reduced from 16GB down to 7GB. Why?
My storage space was reduced. I got in dropbox today and had a notice stating I was using 156% of my space. I dug in and it appears my storage space went from 15 or 16 GB down to 7GB. I did not receive any communications about this. Has this happened to anyone else? I thought the extra space I had was permanent, I have had Dropbox for 10+ years. Seems odd that they would now lower it without warning.

It depends on how the space was earned. Space earned through referrals is generally permanent, but there are other methods that are time limited.
You can see a list of all the space you've earned and that which has expired on your Referrals page. Provide a screenshot if you can, being sure to mask any private information, if any is visible. Also, take a screenshot of your usage as shown on your Plan page. It should look like this:
