Online my account is full but on the desktop app it shows less space is used.
Hi Guys,
My local Windows Dropbox is fully synced with my online Dropbox. Windows Explorer file/properties shows my Dropbox folder is 576 MB but to my surprise, dropbox.com and dropbox app both say my dropbox is full. I have checked the plan tab and found my regular file size is 3.4 GB which is not correct. My shared folder only takes less than 100 MB. What is going on here? Why the discrepancy? Any inputs?
Thanks,
Tao
We can confirm that the most recent releases of Dropbox should have resolved this issue. Users affected by this issue were unable to see all of the backups on their account. This meant that when they believe they deleted some or all of their files, there could still be backups taking up space on their account. This should no longer be affecting users who should be able to see all of their backups.
You can find out deleted information on disabling and deleting backups below:
If you disable the backup and choose to "Leave content in Dropbox", your backup content would still be there until it was permanently deleted.
When you go to the Backups page and see no content, be sure to check the deleted section, too.
You can download the files from this location if you need to store them locally on your device.
To clear out the data from the deleted backup, follow these steps:- Navigate to
dropbox.com/backup/all - Click on
Show deleted backups - Select their backup and click on
permanently delete
Some users did not have backups, but they were members of shared folders which were taking up space on their accounts. You can remove shared folders using these instructions.
If you are still experiencing quota issues after following these steps, then confirm that we can reach out to you via email and our support agents will look into this with you.- Navigate to

It looks like all of my used storage is in "backup". How do I clear that out? I don't remember even enabling backups.

I found "backup" and apparently somehow it started syncing my external devices although I consistently say no when asked every single time I plug in an external USB device. I also clicked on "delete" on "external drive" in the WWW and it just says "error" now. How do I purge the backups without error?

Hiya,
Bit of a strange one..
I accidentally clicked 'back up' on my big external music harddrive to my dropbox a few weeks back.
Therefore about 80GB of data was stored in my dropbox. I'm not sure If I would have had to be on PLUS for this to happen, I didn't think I had the plus subsciption however I am unsure how this could have happened otherwise.
Anyway, I'm back on the free subscription and just want to use this one. I deleted this huge backup as obviously it said that I was out of storage however despite deleting this, permanently deleting this backup from my deleted files, having no shared files OR links it still says that I am using 80GB storage. ๐ .
I deleted this backup from my dropbox this morning and I am thinking that it may take up some time to free up this space / catch up as it was such a large amount of deleted data? I'm out of ideas otherwise as I don't have any other reason that I would still be using 80GB.
Any ideas would be appreciated ๐

is dropbox going to ask me every time I plug in a new or the same USB drive if I want to back it up? How do I disable that? Its sort of annoying.

Go into Preferences and disable that feature on the Backup tab.

Hi emma2000, let's jump right into this!
Can you check the plan tab in your account settings, and let me know what it reports there? If you were excessively over your allocated quota, you'd need to delete a lot of files, in order to free-up your space.
What about your Backups page online? Does it show that your backup has been disabled? I'd personally suggest that you also follow the steps our Community Manager, Emmet posted here.

I get the message "Your dropbox is jull"
I have just a few files there. What is to be done?

Banner warns about the end of the place in the account. My account used 130 megabytes of space, but the banner says that I used all 5.7 gigabytes. At the same time, I have a free tariff plan with a size of 2 gigabytes.
