YOU have enough space in your account. They do not. As Megan mentioned, every member of a shared folder has their own copy of the folder in their account, taking up space. Anything they add to the folder needs to fit within their account's available space; not just yours.
If they're out of space and don't want to upgrade, you can send them a File Request instead. They'll be able to upload files directly to your account, no Dropbox account needed.

What if I just want to download files from a shared folder? I don't use dropbox but a photographer I hired is trying to share the photos I paid for through dropbox. Is there anyway for me to just download them without having to pay for an account? I don't want to store the photos with dropbox.

9 months agoHi User7654321, you can ask the owner of the shared folder to create a shared link to the folder.
This will allow you access it, even without a Dropbox account, and download the files in the folder to your machine.
