Dropbox Backup partially backup, not updating.
When I go to manage my backups the Mac is Disabled. I am backing up 3 folders from my computer hard drive. They are only partially backup and not updating. Screen shots to help explain.

Hi Megan
Can you advise what the outcome was of this problem as i have the exact same problem and tried the solutions suggested?

Hi 25glenmore! Hope itās OK to jump in instead.
To look into your case, weāll need to know some specifics from your device and Dropbox app. Can you clarify your computerās OS, and your Dropbox appās version and current syncing status?
Iād also like you to send me a screenshot of what youāre seeing on your Backups page, and clarify which ones of your computer folders youāre having trouble with.

Hi Nancy
Thanks for getting in contact, I am using Windows 11 Pro
Dropbox Version 193.4.5594
Trying to backup an external hard drive called Elements, Dropbox has been trying to back it up but only partially backs it up a lot is missing. There is no issue with drive access or file integrity.
Full backup should be 142GB
I have restarted app and computer multiple times.

Thanks for the screenshot, 25glenmore!
I can see that your Dropbox app is still in the process of backing up lots of files. Can you please right click on your local Dropbox folder, go to Properties, and send me a screenshot of what you see there?
Iām just trying to make sure that the performance of the Dropbox app hasnāt degraded due to syncing an excessive amount of files.
Also, have you noticed any specific folders/file names that havenāt been backed up to your Dropbox account?

Nancy
All these files had no issue backing up previous to this, I have changed computer and now have the same files on an external hard drive rather than a local hard drive as per previous.
Been set to incremental backups for a very long time with no issues.
i have attached screenshot as requested with the properties window for the main folder.

Thanks for the extra screenshot!
In the meantime, I looked into the info youāve provided so far, and I can see on your previous screenshot that only some of your folders have been chosen to be backed up.
Can you please pull up the previous window you had opened with your backup settings, and click on the āChoose foldersā button (under Manage backup)? Do you see any of your folders not being selected at the moment?
Can you send me a screenshot of what you see there, as well?

Hi Nancy
Is you last message meant for me? if so the screen shot you are referring to is not mine it was from the original poster. I have all the folders selected that i want to backup, there is a couple of systems files that i have not ticked on purpose.
However the GB value that dropbox suggest its backing up keeps changing from all up to date to 40gb to 70gb to 141gb without me doing anything.

Hey there! Yes, in my last post, I was referring to the screenshot you uploaded here.
Since the backupās syncing status is different now, can you please give it couple more hours and let me know if it makes any progress/if you see any new content backed up that you couldnāt see before?
- 25glenmore2 years agoExplorer | Level 4
Hi Nancy
Still only backed up about 74gb and status is everything is up to date, still half the content missing?

Hmm, I see. Can you please check the files/folders of your external drive, and let me know if thereās something that doesnāt seem to be backed up to Dropbox?
Iād like to gather as much info as possible to investigate this further.

Morning Nancy.
Checked last night and lots of files missing, getting to my wits end with this now.
I thought if i just copied all the files from the hard drive to my desktop then i could just right click and backup to dropbox, as soon as i had done this i had the new folder appear in place on my desktop with the Ignore symbol? I deleted the backup and still cannot get the Folder "server5" on my desktop to backup.
Any suggestions? it has been so much easier in the years gone by.
Thanks
Alan

Thanks for giving that a go, Alan.
If I get it right, youāre seeing this syncing icon next to the āServer-5ā folder, correct?
If yes, Iād like you to follow these steps and let me know if it syncs now online.

Hi Nancy
I had a quick look at that earlier this morning and gave it a go but im obviously not amending it correctly as it is unrecognized command.
The syncing icon is against the new folder that dropbox placed on the desktop "Files on my Computer" my "Server-5" Folder is now inside this but still reachable via Server5\Desktop\Server-5 location.
Can you give me a more simple breakdown of the command line.
The location of my folder that i want to back up is "C:\Users\Server 5\Desktop\Server-5"
Thanks Again

Thanks for giving that a go! In this case, Iād like you to open the "Server-5" folder within Desktop, and send me a screenshot of how it shows on your computer.
Iāll have a look and guide you from there.

Thanks Alan! From your screenshots, I donāt see see any icon suggesting that this folder is being ignored specifically.
However, Iād like to make sure that computer backup has been set up properly (as I can see thereās a āMy files in Dropboxā shortcut, which can indicate somethingās not being backed up right.
Please send me two more screenshots of what you see on your Backups tab here and online here.
Finally, did you perform any reinstalls of the Dropbox app in the meantime?

Nancy
The Ignore Icon is on the "My Files in Dropbox" folder that dropbox placed on my desktop and moved "Server-5" Folder inside it. that seems to be the issue how do i remove the Ignore icon from the "My Files in Dropbox" folder?
See folder Top left of the screen grab below.
