I did follow the steps outlined to change the location.
Bizarrely, today, the Dropbox program is now working and synching OK. The icon has returned.
However, another error is happening. I opened a document that I wanted to edit and save with a new file name in the same folder. But it failed and I got an error message saying it couldn't access the folder. I was then forced to save in main documents again.

Did you open the file from Explorer directly, or via Excel itself?
Is the full folder and filepath shorter than 260 characters?

From Explorer. I’ve never had an issue before with long file names.
