Solved

I cannot install the desktop app on Linux Fedora 37

Gnome 43 has removed

libnautilus-extension.so.1

making it impossible to install Dropbox on Fedora 37. Please update the rpm installer to make use of the changes in gnome 43.

For reference: https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/official-dropbox-package-doesnt-install-in-fedora-37/27296

Here is a link to an open pull request to make the necessary changes: https://github.com/dropbox/nautilus-dropbox/pull/105

  • Hi there,

We've spoken to our team, and they've told us that they're aware of a caching issue that causes that endpoint to return invalid 404 errors. They're currently working on a fix for this, but in the meantime, retrying the link should work.

We also recommend clearing your cache before retrying, as this can assist with some common errors.

    Regards,

    Emmet

So not 'a fix available, please update'?
So it isn't yet a fix?

You need to install the nautilus-dropbox package to get the icons and dropbox context menu.

Hi all, can you please let us know if you're still having issues with this?

If you do, please try clearing your browser's cache and refreshing the page before downloading and installing the app from this page

Hmm...🤔 Walter, Where in the page, your link points to, can be seen DEB package dedicated for Gtk4 based Nautilus? As far as I can see, the plugin in the DEB package there supports only Gtk2 or Gtk3 based Nautilus. Am I wrong? 🧐

So why isn't there a 'clear this report' option?

AFAIK (with a re-install) this problem is cleared (until the next Linux update perhaps),

so please mark it as cleared?

Hey dpawson, sorry for the late reply here, but I just wanted to mention that this should have been fixed after a recent release.

Please let us know if anything else comes up.

    Spoiler
Yes, but the same issue comes up with Fedora 38?

fyi, Fedora updates roughly every 6 months.

Hey dpawson, would you mind giving us a few more details about your issue?

If you can send us screenshots, so we can have a visual of the issue, that would also be greatly appreciated.

This was resolved some weeks ago. I did note that it recurred with the release of Fedora 38, that your repository was not responsive, but as of this morning,

Dropbox is working fine in Nautilus, the file tool.
