I can't get the Dropbox app to load on my Macbook Air M2?
No way to open settings. Clicking Dropbox just opens the Dropbox folder in Finder
It appears to be syncing something maybe, but I have no control over it
Please fix, this is terrible

Welcome back to the Community, FNKDREAMBOX.
Can you send me a screenshot showing where you're clicking exactly, right before the local Dropbox folder opens on your device?
Also, please provide me with the syncing status and app version of your Dropbox app.
Let me know when you have more details.

Starting a few weeks back the dropbox app desktop shortcut stopped working.
Instead of launching the app, it opens the folder in windows explorer.
Trying to manually change it does not work, it works once, and then reverts back to folder location.
Clean installation didn't do much either.
Is it a new feature? A bug?
Is there a way to revert to older versions? - Nancy2 years ago

Hi BoRubin!
I’ve moved your post here, since it sounds similar to the one above.
Can you please have a look, and provide me with the same info I’ve requested from the other user, too?
Thanks.

Hi Nancy
I'm not certain this is exactly the same situation, as I can open settings without a problem.
I click on the same Dropbox shortcut I've had for years, this is the current (wrong) path and the current (wrong) thumbnail.
Changing it manually doesn't help, as it reverts back to this. - BoRubin2 years agoExplorer | Level 4

The synching is working fine, once the app is launched - Nancy2 years ago

Thanks for the screenshot, BoRubin! I appreciate it.
You mention above that you're seeing the wrong folder path when accessing the Dropbox folder's properties. Can you let me know what's the actual folder path of your Dropbox folder (please make sure to hide any personal info that may be included, like your username for example)?

Thank you for the response.
The E:\Dropbox is where the sync folder is.
The Dropbox client is installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\Client\Dropbox.exe
If memory serves me right, in the past it was possible to choose whether the shortcut will open the win explorer folder, or start up Dropbox. It's not in the settings anymore, and it wasn't an option to choose when I re-installed. I assume it's supposed to go to the client path but isn't doing so anymore.

Clicking Dropbox in Applications
Version 178.4.4811
I don't think there's a way to check sync status if the app doesn't load! Double clicking that just goes to the Dropbox Folder.

Hey BoRubin, if you're referring to the old Dropbox application interface that used to look a bit like our website, that's been deprecated.
You can now only access your files through the local Dropbox folder.
If you click on the Dropbox icon in your system tray, then on your initials/profile pic, then on "preferences" and then on "sync", what's the location of the Dropbox folder there?
As for your case, duck_you, do you have a small Dropbox icon in your menu bar, by your WiFi icon?
If so, hovering over it will give you the sync status and version of the Dropbox app and clicking on your initials/profile pic will take you to the app's preferences too.

Hi Hannah,
Sorry, I don't mean the old Dropbox application, I mean literally launching the Dropbox process, starting it up and causing it to sync, and a Dropbox icon appear in the system tray. Like would've happened when starting up windows, should the "start Dropbox on system startup" option was ticked.
The shortcut, which has always done that, stopped doing it.
The sync location, as mentioned above, is E:\Dropbox
Thank you,
Bo
