"Installation failed. Please try again" error on Windows 10

Hi there.

I had to uninstall Dropbox on my machine with Windows 10 and downloaded the Dropbox app and executed the DropboxInstaller.

After a few minutes saying "Installing Dropbox...", I get the error "installation failed. Please try again" without any more information.

I deactivated firewall and antivirus but the error persists.

How can I solve this?

Regards.

  • Hey Fraga - have you tried an advanced reinstall by any chance?

If you're on the Dropbox Basic plan, make sure that you're not connecting more than 3 devices to your account as you might be hitting your account's device limit

    Hi @Fraga,

Did you run the installer with admin privileges or as a regular executable only? 🧐 If you have only tried as regular executable, give a try to elevated privileges as administrator too. 😉

    Good luck.

    Hi, @Здравко.

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I did try with admin privileges, but I get the same error.

I use this account for 15 years, but I'm not being able to install Dropbox this time...

I guess I'll have to search for an alternative, because there's no further details on the error or how to solve it. 😢

For sure this cannot be Walter. If there are more devices linked already, the error wouldn't be at install time, but at link time (something that happens after install) and there is clear message. You don't need to believe me, but just check on your own.

As Fraga mentioned (and I cannot disagree) very often error messages are completely useless though! This is something very often discussed here on the forum and almost ignored from the application' development, unfortunately. 🤦

    Let's hope this will change.

Although I had uninstalled DB without errors (after an error while updating) this really solved the problem!

I don't know why DB doesn't remove everything from registry itself, but anyway thank you very much!
