Logic Pro X projects stored in Dropbox don't show up in "Recent"
Hi all, this is a niche issue and probably not Dropbox's "fault", but thought I'd ask here just in case.
Since I upgraded to the latest version of Dropbox for Mac (which moved the folder location, etc.), Logic Pro X projects stored in Dropbox no longer show up in File > Open Recent or in the Recent tab of Logic's startup window.
The same thing was already happening with Google Drive for Desktop, so I would guess it's a general issue with the File Provider API. However, projects stored in iCloud Drive do show up in Recent.
Other Apple apps (TextEdit, Pages) will show files from Dropbox in the Open Recent menu. (And Dropbox-stored Logic projects do show up in Recent Items under the top-left Apple menu.)
Making the folders available offline doesn't help.
Running Logic 10.7.6 in Ventura 13.1 on an M1 MacBook Pro.
Any ideas?
Hallelujah! It's fixed in Logic 10.8!

Same problem here, and it's annoying

Read that Google Drive has the same issue. So its an Apple thing I'm afraid. iCloud doesn't has this issue and it looks like OneDrive isn't stored in the same library so thats an option too. I'm switching to iCloud.

The facts are than in the previous version that didn't happen.

Same with Synology Nas - If we're forced into using iCloud for this it's a bad move.

Here are a few suggestions to try and resolve the problem:
Update Logic Pro X: Ensure that you have the latest version of Logic Pro X installed on your system. Software updates often include bug fixes and improvements that may address compatibility issues.
Check Dropbox Settings: Verify that Dropbox is set up correctly on your Mac and that the folder location has been properly configured. You can refer to Dropbox's documentation or support resources to ensure you've completed the necessary steps.
Reinstall Dropbox: If the issue persists, you may want to try reinstalling Dropbox. Uninstall the current version from your Mac, restart your computer, and then download and install the latest version from the official Dropbox website.
Contact Logic Pro X Support: Reach out to Logic Pro X support or consult their community forums to see if other users have encountered a similar issue. They may have specific insights or workarounds for using Logic Pro X projects with cloud storage services.
Consider Alternative Cloud Storage: If the problem persists, you might consider using an alternative cloud storage solution like iCloud Drive or another provider to see if the issue persists. As you mentioned, Logic Pro X projects stored in iCloud Drive show up in the "Recent" section, so it may be worth exploring this option.
Remember to back up your Logic Pro X projects before attempting any troubleshooting steps to prevent any potential data loss.
Overall, addressing this issue may require a combination of troubleshooting steps and potentially waiting for software updates from either Logic Pro X or Dropbox.
- JohnLawrie3 years agoNew member | Level 2Hey all, Iām having an issue that is infinitely frustrating. Long story short, after having a bunch of issues with syncing get resolved, I now have Logic Pro X files that are showing up when I look at DropBox via a browser but are missing when I go to the DropBox folder on my computer. Weirdly itās only the files that have been created since DropBox updated about a month or two ago.
On top of that, if I download one of these Logic files from the browser and just move it to my folder, it will rename it something to the effect of āconflicted fileā and convert it to a folder, which makes the whole system entirely unusable for me.
There seems to already be a lot of stuff saying how DropBox is having issues working with Logic and Final Cut files because of the APIs used etc. and when I contacted support I kept being met with things to the effect of āthis is not a DropBox issueā. I was also told to āre-connect Logic to DropBoxā without any explanation of what that means or how to do it, even when asked.
Is anyone else having this sort of issue? Iāve used DropBox for years to help back up my files and save space on my computer and itās worked perfectly and seamlessly the whole time, but itās looking like I may need to switch to a different service or just start storing things to physical hard drives again. - Midi_Sordino3 years agoHelpful | Level 5
Your Logic files are probably set up to default to 'Online-only'. Downloading them and putting them in the same folder will naturally create a conflict. Go into your Dropbox preferences and select Sync > Look for 'New files default'. Then select 'Available offline'. Hopefully this sorts the issue out.

Is there any update on the main issue of Logic Pro project files not showing up in 'Recent Items'? That's how I found this thread.
Seems like Apple aren't allowing third-party cloud storage companies easy access to a fix, or at the least are certainly making life more difficult for those not using iCloud?
- Ra60003 years agoExplorer | Level 4Can someone from Dropbox respond with the precise reason for this? If we have it then we can submit support tickets to Apple directly

Same issue here: Logic Pro files (I save them as folders) are syncing properly but don't show up in 'recent projects'.
...maybe its time to switch to Ableton... š
