Thanks for the reply.
How does one generate a log? I will do it but carefully check it over. If the log displays anything that a skilled programmer could discern about me or my home network even down to subdirectory names, IP addresses, etc. I might decline to post it. As I mull this over I am getting more and more sure this is an OSX Monterey problem. Somewhere in the new 14" Mac Book Pro a remnant of the user I started with, renamed and deleted is showing up since I doubt that a Dropbox dmg has already been set with the user I dropped.

4 years agoHi M1Victim!
In order for us to further investigate, we'll need to get and analyze the full error log that corresponds to the error message pop-up you're getting.
You can obtain the full text of the error by clicking on the blue link within the error message pop-up. This will open a file with the full text of the error. Please copy and paste the text in your next response.

I have no idea how this occurred but after rebooting the new 14" MBP with M1 Pro the absent user that I thought I had killed on the HD and in Users and Groups did not show in Users and Groups, but did appear in my user list subdirectory, even though I had called for it's deletion at the time as well.
Energized, I deleted everything Dropbox and somehow I as the new user was able to easily download and install the free version.
Many thanks to whomever suggested sending a log. I am so averse to giving anyone information about anything that I celebrate that this apparently is no longer necessary. . If something does crop up I may have to consider a log but would need to be assured (and verify for myself) that nothing personal would appear or could be inferred.
Thanks again.
