Problem with Blender 3d and MacOS Beta
Hi
I just updated to the MacOS Dropbox BETA on Monterey 12.6.3, and it all seem to be working perfectly, except for a problem with Blender 3D 3.4.
Blender seems to use a non standard file manager, maybe part of its cross platform development base, I assume.
When I try to access my newly moved dropbox files (ie everything) from inside Blender I cannot get into the root dropbox folder. I can get to it via /users/user/library/cloudstorage but I cannot get further than that. This effects everything involving file diologues: open, save, export, import, linked textures, etc
I've tried setting up alias that go directly to points further within the file hierarchy, but they always just lead me to the root folder and stop me there.
I can double click on blender files within dropbox in the finder and they open fine, but if I try to save them they can't save back to dropbox.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to fix or get around this? Do I need symlinks rather than aliases, or is there some sort of permission I need to set?
Cheers Peter
Hey peteratdrome, thanks for reaching out to us.
Since your Dropbox folder is now in ~/Library/CloudStorage, there are some things you need to know about this version of the Dropbox app.
Specifically, when it comes to some third party apps, might need to be allowed access as seen here, so that you can use them properly.
Let me know how it goes.

Hi Unicorny, regarding the CloudStorage issue, in order to look into this matter in more detail, I'd recommend contacting the support team directly for them to investigate further.
When that is resolved, that might help with the Blender issue you're experiencing.

Hi,
Sadly even after granting Blender and Dropbox access to all files, Blender still does not see Dropbox volume neither does the Cloud Storage file appears in Library...
What can be done ?

Hi Nancy,
Thank you so much! It works after I took the steps you suggested, everything runs fine now. Superb! Sorry for the late reply though, I was quite busy the last days.
Best, Daniel

Perfect. What I’d like you to try next is to go to Privacy & Security -> Full Disk Access, click the + button, and select the app (Blender.app), which would give the app access to all folders including Dropbox.
After that, I want you to follow this filepath ~/Library/CloudStorage and see if you can access the Dropbox folder from Blender now.

I did a restart, no change. The OS is Ventura 13.0.1
You can also ask more questions if that helps to speed up the process 🙂 - Nancy2 years ago

Thanks for that, Daniel! Appreciate it.
Have you restarted your computer, since the update took place?
Is Dropbox still not showing as an option after that?
If not, what’s the OS version of your device?

Hi Nancy, thanks for the swift response. Here a screenshot of the system settings.
In the blender interface for saving or importing files, Dropbox does simply not appear. - Nancy2 years ago

Hi Hannah,
I got the same problem but can't tick any other boxes in system settings > files and folders than desktop, Dropbox isn't there. Can you help me further?
Best Daniel
