Take Dropbox out of Mac Library
The Dropbox upgrade moved the dropbox files to my ~/Library/CloudStorage/ --- but I can't save any files to that folder.
All the online instructions say "do the advanced reinstallation per this page: https://help.dropbox.com/installs/advanced-reinstall " -- but the instructions on this page aren't visible; the accordions don't open.
How can I move my files out of my library and back to my user folder, so I can edit them?

Hopefully, Dropbox will release an official solution for this later as a lot of people are upset.

sorry for replying same thing again:
in some (at least my usecase all) application the paths of linked items are resolved to its actual position
therefore, a symlink doesn't help
i even tried to duplicate the folder and only put a symlink of the file – its not working:

Perhaps you're creating the symlinks the wrong way around?

I have the same issue. I use multiple image editing suites, type tools, icon tools which build libraries around absolute paths. Some can't outright open the Dropbox Folder, others I need to fix the path each time I open a library. This is infuriating. It is mind boggling to me how something like that is pushed into the wild without considering that. Even worse, the only offered solution is to run shell commands..
I removed the dropbox client and switched to Maestral (https://maestral.app). One more benefit seems to be a much lower footprint of Maestral compared to the Dropbox App (3-4 times smaller and probably less memory hungry, too).

actually creating a symlink fixed the issue, thanks.
