The new stable version on Windows doesn't sync online-only.
Stable version refuses to sync online-only on a Microsoft Surface 7. OS Build 26100.3194.

So I think I was able to solve this. I uninstalled and reinstalled from dropbox.com (the dropbox installer app) - same issue. Even after a restart. But then I uninstalled and installed the app from the microsoft store and that one seems to be working with selective sync. So for future people on this thread, try using the microsoft store app, not the native one that comes from Dropbox installer!
Thanks!

Yes I did that. I can see all my folders, but if I click one, it is downloaded locally. What I have been able to do on other computers is have some folders that are synced locally, but most are visible, but in the cloud - and only download when needed. This is ideal since some folders are very large!

10 months agoThanks for the update here, fpwilson3.
So, if you check these folders back, they will indeed sync to your computer again, but they should sync as online-only.
Do you see that they're syncing as available offline and taking up your space?
And if you sync them back and they take up space, can you right-click on them and choose to make them online-only?

Correct, when I check the folders back, they do NOT sync as online only. They download to my computer (and take up space). When i right-click on any of those now local files, and go to the dropbox menu, I get the following choices:
-Copy dropbox link
-Share
-Transfer a copy
-View on dropbox.com
-Version history
No option to change to online only. Perhaps a problem with my ARM64 processor on the Windows Surface Laptop?

Hey fpwilson3 - could you send us a screenshot of this as well to check the syncing icon on the folder/files and also clarify the app's status and version as shown in your system tray?

Sure. System tray icon / version and screenshot of the menu attached.
