Windows app keeps folders of older client versions, can I remove them?
I just discovered that the Dropbox Windows App is not a good app-space manager.
On one computer:
c:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\ contains SEVEN old client versions, using over 2.6GB of storage!...

The folder with the most recent date on it (today) is simply labeled, "Client" should I keep both the highest "Client_XXX.X.XXXX" folder and this one without a version number?

6 months agoHey SaraBequette, let's jump right into this!
Would you mind sharing the space each folder takes up on your device?
If you have a screenshot of the two most recent folders along with their size and date, that'd be amazing, in order for me to have a visual too.
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Hello Megan,
I don't see a way to include a screenshot, but I'll type the folders I'm seeing:
Folder 1: Client
Date modified: 7/1/2025
Date created: 5/15/2025
File size: 535MB
[Note: even though the parent folder doesn't list one, the internal folder number is "228.3.5456"]
Folder 2: Client_195.3.4954
Date modified: 3/15/2024
Date created: 3/15/2024
File size: 471MB
Folder 3: Client_212.3.5673
Date modified: 11/5/2024
Date created: 11/5/2024
File size: 493MB
Folder 4: Client_212.3.5724
Date modified: 11/13/2024
Date created: 11/13/2024
File size: 493MB
Folder 5: Client_217.3.4243
Date modified: 1/24/2025
Date created: 1/24/2025
File size: 521MB
It looks like each of the Client folders contain the same:
Content Folder 1: XXX.X.XXXX (Client number from parent folder)
Content Folder 2: PackageAssets
Dropbox.exe
Dropbox.VisualElements.Manifest.xml
DropboxExt.80.0.dll
DropboxExt64.80.0.dll
DropboxUninstaller.exe
qt.conf
resources.pri
Then there's the (I'm assuming) typical "Crash Reports", "Temp", and "Update" folders.
Hope that helps!- Megan6 months ago

Hey SaraBequette, thanks for all that info!
Based on everything you've provided, it looks like "Folder 1" is linked to the Dropbox app's latest beta version (228.3.5456).
You can remove any older ones that you might not need, but keep the first one to ensure the app's best configuration.
If you need something else, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help every step of the way.

Perfect, thank you so much!
