Add ability to opt out of upsell ads as a paying customer

Issue details: Just a bit of feedback:

It's very frustrating seeing ads that that I have to click through *every single time* I want to use Dropbox's web interface, when I'm already a paying customer.

There seems to be no way to opt out of these.

Again, I'm a *paying* customer already. It makes me dread logging in. It's annoying enough that I will suggest to my team that we move to something else when we get the chance, and I will make a point to use something else for other projects.

  • Hi avatar382!

Thanks for posting on the Dropbox Forum and for sharing your feedback!

I've shared this with the relevant teams who said they're still trying to strike the correct balance with the pop up behavior.

I've asked them specifically to take a look at your account to see there is a reason you're seeing an abnormally high volume.

Upvote, if that's a thing.  There is no reason to show me multiple times a day, especially since I'm not a team and I have only 170G in my account.  Even if I were the power user of your dreams, it would still be polite to limit the nagging to, like, once a month?

    Hi concernedcitizen!

Welcome to the Dropbox Community and Happy New Year!

I've checked on my end and you're right, this does seem to be incorrect and should not be appearing for you.

I've reached out internally for the relevant team to investigate and hopefully fix this for you soon.

I'll let you know as soon as I have an update.

    Hi again concernedcitizen!

I just wanted to check back in with you and ask if you use an adblocker of some kind? The reason I ask is because if so, adblocker can prevent Dropbox from gathering info on whether someone has seen a prompt like the one you've shared.

We have safeguards in place to prevent people from being spammed messages like this but with an adblocker, our systems are under the impression that you've never seen the prompt before.

We believe this is the case as we can see you've been shown this message many times in the last few days. If you do have an adblocker, try whitelisting Dropbox.com. This should let us gather the info correctly after the fact and you should stop seeing the prompts.

Let me know how you get on.

    Hi concernedcitizen,

I just wanted to touch base and let you know that I've flagged this internally and had this prompt removed for you as you are not part of a team. You should not see it again and apologies for any inconvenience!

    Neal Thanks for following up.

Could you flag me internally as well? I am also not part of a team. I'm happy with my service and don't anticipate changing plans any time soon.

Of course I use an adblocker, and I clear cookies rigorously. The web is unusable and a privacy nightmare without these practices. Could you pass feedback to the marketing team to consider an general opt out for paid accounts?

The dev team should be aware that adblocker use is common, and that should be taken into account when designing these features.

I want to do business with companies that respect my time, space, privacy and attention -- the marketing team should know that aggressive marketing does damage to the Dropbox brand in this regard.

    Thanks for the feedback avatar382!

The team is aware of the issue with adblockers and are currently working on this.

Can you confirm if it's the same prompt that you're seeing?

    Thank you so much avatar382!

I've reached out to the same team members and this prompt has been removed for you as well.

As I mentioned on this thread, if you have an adblocker, try whitelisting Dropbox so that it does not interfere and you're not excessively seeing other prompts.

    Have a great day!
