Family manager - Family Plan

Hi everyone,

Can I buy the family plan and then select someone else to be the family manager?

Thank you!

  • Hello, we have an update on this ask.

We now support Family managers allowing other plan members admin privilege, including inviting other team members.

To do this, go to dropbox.com/account/family, click on the menu next to a family member’s name and select “Grant admin privileges”.

Note: the Family manager who pays for the account will still have some unique ability to manage the billing.

    Hope that helps!

Hello there ninde, thanks for checking in.

You can get Dropbox Family by selecting the option to change your plan under the Plan tab online.

As for choosing who the Family manager is, generally, the person who purchases the subscription is by default the Family manager and it can currently be one user.

Would you like to have more than one manager for payments or so that they have more control over the plan?

Let me know and I'll make sure to get back to you as soon as possible. Cheers!

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply!

I would like to buy the family plan, and then move the managing to someone else. this person is not very technology friendly, so I would buy the plan, but then that person alone would be in charge. I don't want to be the family manager

    Would it be possible?

    Thank you!

Hi ninde, it won't be possible to transfer the ownership of the Family plan to another user, since the payment (and whatever features the plan now has) is only associated with the account that was upgraded.

If you wish, you can suggest this change for others to vote on, so the dev team can look into this in future!

    @Emma

Can you please describe in detail what are actual privileges of "admin" in the Dropbox Family plan?

I cannot find this info documented anywhere on the forum or Dropbox website.

    Thanks!

Hi @phq, the Family Manager can perform these actions on the team, which normal members are not able to do.

    Thanks for your answer.

However, I was not referring to "Family Manager".

I would like to ask what are the privileges of a family member after I click "Grant admin privileges" to him/her ???

    Please see my screenshot below.

    Thank you for your time!

    Best,

    P

    Hi pqh!

Family members with admin privileges can invite other members to the Family plan.

They should be able to do so. Let me know if you have any other questions.
