Switching from Apple to Website
I'm trying to switch from a mobile subscription (Apple) to a subscription to Dropbox. I was told to cancel my Apple subscription (which I did) and then I would be able to sign up on Dropbox.
Yet, I'm still told that "Your plan and billing information are managed externally," when I try to upgrade online.
I understand from a prior post that I have to wait for my account to downgrade to basic and then sign up, yet I got a refund on my ANNUAL subscription from Apple. Does this mean I may have to wait a year to upgrade on Dropbox's end?

My plan says dropbox 'plus', and I have tried 'cancelling' the subscription but it just takes me to the app store page for subscriptions, and there is no cancellation option, just a selection of subscriptions I can try.

If you got a refund from Apple for your annual subscription, then you will need to wait until your Apple subscription expires before you can upgrade to a Dropbox subscription. This is because Dropbox ties your subscription to your Apple account, and they will not allow you to upgrade until your Apple subscription has ended.
The exact amount of time you need to wait will depend on when your Apple subscription was supposed to renew. If your subscription was supposed to renew on July 1st, then you will need to wait until July 1st to upgrade to a Dropbox subscription.
Once your Apple subscription has expired, you will be able to upgrade to a Dropbox subscription.

Hi drstevok, just to make sure we're on the same page, have you tried these steps, in order to cancel your plan with Apple?
Since you're still on the Plus plan, it doesn't look like the subscription has expired, unless Apple is trying to bill you, but can't do it, which would take some days for it to downgrade, before you can re-upgrade with us.

That's right but there's no option to cancel (see screenshot).
How long do I need to wait? I'm trying to set-up the rest of my family but don't want to pay the additional cost that a subscription incurs when taken out through the App store.

You need to cancel the trial.
Let Dropbox totally downgrade you after it says failed payment a few times.
THEN upgrade at www.dropbox.com/plans

I have almost identical issues. I cancelled dropbox via apple iOS with the intention to switch to direct subscription via PC. but i keep getting the message "You purchased Dropbox plus through the iOS app. Manage apple store subscription." How can i resolve this? Because my subscription says Dropbox Plus was expired on January 21. The Apple customer service rep i spoke with cannot explain why it is happening.
