no longer have access to the email I signed up with
I need to update my email address in my account because I no longer have access to the original email. If I update it in my account, will it send anything to the old email address? In other words, will I lose access to my account if I try to change the email address from an account I no longer have access to?

If your old email address wasn't verified with Dropbox, you would need to verify the current email before you can change it, which would send something to the old email. You wouldn't lose access to the account, but you could if Dropbox decides to expire your password in the future.
If your email address isn't verified and you don't have access to it, you won't be able to change the email address on the account.

The page link that you sent me to requires login which for the old email address is GONE. Here's the result:
We sent a code to [removed per the Dropbox Community Guidelines] and any devices you’ve linked to this account. Enter the code to continue.
I cannot enter the code to continue if the email address isn't working. I logged in vis the free account (2GB) that doesn't have work files. I made the free account just to get somewhere since Dropbox has no phone numbers to call. So sad.
In addition, any correspondence for billing is linked to a deleted email account. I'm lucky I'm even able to correspond to you here. Grateful, but tech support...not so much. Is it true that there are no phone numbers to speak with someone?
Simply need:
Free account deleted.
Old account restored to before.
Old account linked to current business email address.
All billing linked to corrected business email address.
I checked deleted files and everywhere. Nothing more there. Nothing to restore.
Please continue to help.

Hi again, Andrew.
You mentioned that you can access your old account through your laptop; is the Dropbox application still syncing on this laptop?
Do you have a Dropbox icon in your system tray/menu bar? And if so, what do you see when you hover over this icon?
Also, assuming the app is syncing, if you click the Dropbox icon and then click on the globe icon next to your initials/profile pic, are you able to access your old account?
