my account was deactivated. i have a law firm and i need access to file pleadings other wise i will be in trouble with the court. ive had this issue expedited three times and each time nothing happens. i dont know what to do. its absolutely necessary i filed these pleadings. all i hear is expedited and too bad too sad. i offered to pay to ransom my files back. one rep said i can pay for business advanced for like $720.00 get phone access and they will resolve it. another rep said that wont work. what do you do when there is an emergency?

Deactivated means that your account has been closed for breaching terms and conditions - that also means, I'm afraid, it wont be reopened.
In terms of your files I'm afraid you will need to access the backups you have of them as its 99% certain they wont be recoverable via Dropbox.
- bogrosnounours4 years agoHelpful | Level 7How can you affirm that ? for what ever reason it is ... i must recover my 'digital life'
Everything is in there .
I taught i had a physical backup but their new 'space saver thing' is really invasive no?
No back up available anywhere where I had selective sync folders I have the whole drop box in one hard drive : only traces of files are there ... 99% are 'unreadable' / kind of 'corrupted'
I got no back up a i taughts it was on a synked hard drive. EVerything in my life that can be digitalised was there From Photos / personal infos to my whole company clients work infos ...everything.
I see the files but can't read them . They have it all . For what ever the reason drop box did that, there is no way i won't do everything possible to recover this.
I'm really impatient to get to understand what happened and why - Bruce774 years agoHelpful | Level 5
Yes, it seems they are arbitrarily closing accounts , I have been a customer for years, I have an annual paid subscription with at least three months left. Then suddenly on Friday ZAP! my account was disabled with no warning whatsoever!
It is certainly way short of "best business practice"!!
- Jacopo Conte4 years agoHelpful | Level 6it's really worrying. I've been using Dropbox for over ten years and it has never happened to me. Now, without any communication, I find myself without access to all the folders shared by my customers and with all the sites I manage that give errors on the automatic backups they performed on Dropbox. Fortunately my files are also locally on my pc and I have not lost them but the way in which they deactivated my Pro account without warning is to be reported.

That is very unfortunate, I am sorry to hear that. I did wonder if there was a TOS issue, but I checked their Terms of Service which are very vague, and I can't see anything there that I could have violated. However, I will have to wait and see.
Also, there is no warning about reviewing the TOS when you set up the agreement, do they not have a duty of care to do so if you could risk losing everything
The maddening thing is that they actively encourage you to put everything on Dropbox, to "save space", so many people will not have made back ups. That is NOT good practise if they have such a ruthless moderation policy.
Good luck

Thank you, I didn't mean to speak out of turn, I am just quite distressed by the situation
- Nash1054 years agoCollaborator | Level 8Yeah man I feel your pain. I just hit 90 days and have never gotten more then an automated response. It's really disappointing to loose years of family photos when you have been a loyal customer and know you didn't violate any TOS.
