Does Apple throttle uploads from ~/Library/CloudStorage ?  I see long (15 minute) pauses in uploads to Dropbox when syncing.

Hi @o12johns, thanks for posting here.

From the location of your Dropbox folder, I understand that you’re using Dropbox for macOS on File Provider

Is this behavior something you noticed after the upgrade, or not really? If yes, is this only happening when your computer’s battery is running low?

In general, when files are syncing, each file is divided and compressed into hashed components, transferred via secure data transfer, and then encrypted and stored on our servers. During an upload, the transfer speeds are also dependent upon how quickly your computer can process and compress the components of the files to make them available for upload.

However, I’d like to know if this is something that started happening after the update.

Keep me posted.

Computer is iMac, so no battery.   Yes, I began to notice the long pauses in uploads to Dropbox AFTER I switched to FileProvider.  There will be four files waiting for upload, and they will stay that way for maybe fifteen minutes.  Then they go.  Nothing else going on in machine, so not a load problem.  Could this be Apple messing with Dropbox?

Hey @o12johns, can you check your bandwidth settings, to make sure syncing is not limited?

Already did that.  They are all at Don't Limit.  Also proxies are at No Proxy.

Thanks for checking, @o12johns! Are you experiencing the same behavior, even if you upload a small file via the desktop app, or does this only happen with groups of files?

What’s the current syncing status of the Dropbox app?

Also, I’d like you to right click on your local Dropbox folder, go to “Get info”, and send me a screenshot of the next window that will appear.

Last week, I decided to add a large file (394GB) of videos to Dropbox.  That is when I noticed the long pauses.  It would upload maybe a dozen files and then pause for maybe 15 minutes.  It took a couple of days to upload all of them.  I now wonder if maybe I triggered some spam check at my ISP, and the ISP was inserting the pauses??  I use Google Fiber.

I tried adding a folder containing a few dozen files (total several hundred MB) to the Dropbox folder today and there was no pause.  So I could not reproduce the problem today.  Maybe we should put this issue on the back burner until it recurs.

The Dropbox status is now "Up to date".  Here is the screen grab you asked for.

Thanks for the screenshot, @o12johns! It’s possible that this was caused by the large upload, indeed, but it’s good it no longer happens now.

If you notice something again though, let us know in this thread.
