PDF E-mail attachments attaching as HTML instead of PDF

PDF E-mail attachments attaching as HTML instead of PDF

Just wondering if anyone has encountered this issue. I'm using a Samsung smartphone & tablet. When using Samsung mail and attaching a pdf file from Dropbox, it will attach as an html file. It only happens when attaching files from Dropbox and only happens when using my Samsung mobile devices. Any thoughts???

Hey @Mikeb365, let's jump right into this!

Can you clarify the exact OS you're using on your end?

Also, does this only happen when you use the Samsung email?

Can you walk me through the steps that you follow, when trying to attach the files from Dropbox to your email, please?

Let me know more!

I'm using Android version 14 with the latest updates. I will open an e-mail in the Samsung mail app, click on the paperclip to add an attachment, click on the pdf or jpeg file, a box comes up that says "Creating Link" and the attachment shows up as an HTML file.

As a side note, they attach fine outside of Dropbox and if I use Outlook, I don't have any issues.

Hey @Mikeb365, thanks for the info!

Based on everything that you described, it sounds like the app might be creating a shared link when you try to attach a file from Dropbox. Could that be the case there?

I'm assuming that if you save the file locally, it opens without an issue, right?

Hi Megan,
You are absolutely correct.

Hi from me as well, @Mikeb365! Besides “Create link”, do you see another option to attach your files as they are instead? You can also upload a screenshot of what you see here, so that we can have a visual.

Here you go Megan. Creating link quickly appears, then an HTML link is added to the e-mail. I hope this helps. It does not give me any options, just creates the link.

Hi @Mikeb365, could you attach a screenshot showing exactly what you're tapping when attaching the file and what options you see?

Hi Jay,

Here are the steps:

1: open an e-mail and click the paperclip for attachments. Add the appropriate file, usually a pdf or jpg.

2: This box come up momentarily indicating that it is creating a link

3: The file is added as an HTML file.

Thanks for these screenshots, @Mikeb365! They really help.

I tested this on my end in the meantime and it’s working properly, so I’d like to see what’s going on.

Have you tried clearing the cache of the Dropbox mobile app, and reinstalling it?
