How do I change my billing currency/country?

How do I change my billing currency/country?

I have just upgraded my wife's account to Pro in Australian $ and would like to change my billing currency to Australian $ as well (as I've now been here for 10+ years!).

There seems no ability to change my base billing currency from USD (what it was when I first subscribed) to AUD so that my credit card doesn't continually get hit for international currency conversions and foreign currency commissions.

Given that I just saw the Sydney Opera House as the front slide on the sample Parnsip.Inc presentation on your Dropbox for Business webinar, presumably you could address this internationalisation issue?! Again, as we are all so mobile now, the concept of moving countries should be in the Use Case scenarios...

Or must I cancel/downgrade my Dropbox Pro subscription and then re-upgrade? I'm even happy to switch to Annual from Monthly (but it still wants to take the charges in USD 😞 !)

Many thanks for your expected response...

I've want to change to AUD for billing, and this was the response I got from raising a ticket:

Thank you for contacting Dropbox support! As I understand it, you would like to switch the currency used to pay for your Dropbox Pro account.

Changing the currency used to pay for an account is something we cannot currently allow for renewals.

However, if you would prefer to subscribe from a different billing country, you will first have to cancel your current Pro subscription at the following page:

https://www.dropbox.com/downgrade

Please note that no files would be deleted, although synchronization would pause for the time being before you upgrade again.

On your next scheduled renewal date, your account will be downgraded to our Basic plan, at which point you can upgrade again with the updated country at the following page:

https://www.dropbox.com/upgrade

That's correct, Anthony. There's no way to change the billing country on an active subscription. You need to let your subscription lapse and then sign up again with your new payment method. The following is a reply to a similar question from a Dropboxer:

Ashley scribbled:
Hi there! Unfortunately, it's not possible to change your billing country. If you'd like to change your billing country, you will need to allow your subscription to lapse, and then sign up for a new Pro subscription with your new billing information. I apologise for the inconvenience!

This is primarily a user supported forum and we're unable to assist will billing related issues. You'll need to open a ticket to get this resolved.

Open your ticket here: https://www.dropbox.com/support
Track your ticket here: https://dropbox.zendesk.com

Replies take approximately 1 - 3 business days with Pro users getting priority (longer for Basic users).

Chris, were you able to get the billing currency changed for your account?

Be careful when allowing your subscription to lapse, as you may end up being charged more to re-upgrade than a new user would.

Before I downgraded, I checked the pricing to see if it would be worthwhile to switch from USD billing to AUD billing. It was shown as $12.99 a month when I wasn't logged in.
When I cancelled my subscription in order to change billing currency,  the Upgrade page after I logged in shows $13.99 a month.

I'm sorry, but treating existing customers like cash cows is rude.
I would have expected the same price as a new user, after having been an existing customer for two years, if not a cheaper one.

I contacted Dropbox support about this before, and their (flimsy) excuse in Ticket #4122386 was:
From time to time, we experiment with different Dropbox plans for a small number of randomly selected users. Sometimes these experiments are also limited to certain platforms. We look forward to learning more from these experiments, and offering all of our users cool new options in the future.

Hi Jade et al

Sorry I didn't get back to your post earlier.

YES, I did managed to switch to AUD as my base currency but only, as has been noted above, my downgrading my account and then upgrading again.

You are correct to be careful about price shifts BUT the good thing seems to be that once you are on a plan, the annual renewal seems to stay the same.  Another reason to check your math to see if getting back to an AUD-based account is worth it.  Sometimes, in some circumstances, in might be better sticking with what you had/have.

The complaint I have is that they are applying inconsistent pricing for existing vs new members - I wouldn't call that a "price shift", I'd call it taking advantage of inertia.

Given that exchange rates are volatile, it's unlikely sticking with a USD subscription is going to be better for an Australian customer.

Hi, I’ve tried searching but can’t find an answer to my specific issue. My billing is in USD for some reason, and I wish to change it to GBP.
All the answers I see state I have to cancel and resubscribe to do this. However I don’t know why it’s USD to start with, as I’ve never had a billing address in the states.

Hasn’t been an issue up to now, as PayPal just do the conversion. However I know want to pay with AMEX (to get a cash back offer) but it’ll only work if I’m billed in GBP.

Any advice please?
