Location info of photos and videos missing in Android 14

Location info of photos and videos missing in Android 14

Google Photos shows the location (country and place) of photos and videos taken with my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
When backup to OneDrive I don't see this information in the OneDrive app but it's available on the OneDrive website when clicking on the '!' sign of the pictures. That's cumbersome, but the information is still there.
However, in Dropbox this location info doesn't appear at all. Even the longitude and altitude data isn't included in the metadata.
I would like to subscribe to Dropbox if the location data of the photos and videos taken with my phone is shown in Dropbox.
That's why so far I have a subscription to Google Drive to use Google Photos for my photos and videos.
There are a lot of apps available which can show the country and place based on the longitude and altitude data in the metadata. But does anybody know whether this simple feature is also available in Dropbox or is this just a crucial omission (and great mistake) from Dropbox?
It's unnecessary complicated to use a separated app for information which should just be shown in Dropbox!

Hey @Ronald_Ramakers, thanks for reaching out to us.

Indeed, the location info does not appear in the metadata info for the photos taken from an Android phone, neither on the mobile app, nor on the Dropbox website.

I would suggest taking a look at Emma's tips first and then you can submit this as an idea for other users to up-vote.

Ideas with enough votes are taken into consideration by our team for future updates.

Let me know if you have any questions.

The location info does not appear in the metadata info for the photos taken from an Android phone, neither on the mobile app, nor on the Dropbox website.
Location info is the most important data nobody wants to lose from photos.
So far, only Google Photos shows location info. As Google Photos is part of Google Drive, a subscription to Google Drive is necessary if you want to keep this location info on your photos.
Why can't Dropbox show this location info? A lot of apps such as 'Photo Map' and many others can show this location info.
But do I need a separate app only to show location info?
I love Dropbox due to its integration with Microsoft 365 but the loss of location info of photos makes a subscription to Dropbox useless.
Microsoft 365 isn't integrated in Google Drive. So, I will keep my free OneDrive for Microsoft 365 documents (the free 5GB is enough for only office documents) and also extend my subscription to 2TB Google Drive just for the location info on my photos in Google Photos.
It's really a pity because Dropbox is much better than Google Drive, but I'm not paying two subscriptions to Google Drive and Dropbox together.

I don't know any Cloud backup software, except Google Drive, which can show location info as part of metadata of photos taken from an Android phone.
OneDrive can show this location info but only when you click on the photos and select the metadata. However, OneDrive has no option to search for the location info. Hence, OneDrive has no option to find photos taken in a certain destination. Just clicking on each photo to look for the location info is actually also useless.
Perhaps, Google doesn't allow other Cloud backup software to show this important location info because this info comes from Google Maps.
Whatever, if Dropbox can make it possible to show this location info it will be the second Cloud backup software, after Google Drive, which can do this.
I believe that this feature is a must for millions of people who backup photos online. Hence, this feature might give Dropbox a strong lead in the Cloud backup software competition.
