Dropbox desktop app for Windows v240.4.8493 Windows 10 Pro x64 v22H2 Iâve been using Dropbox for Windows for years. Up until a few months ago, Windowsâs File History (file-versioning feature) has been indexing & backing up files in the C:\Users\<username>\Dropbox folder without issue. But recently I discovered File History stopped indexing Dropbox files back on September 26, 2025; presumably my Dropbox app auto-updated that day. I could still access Dropbox file versions from before that date, but nothing after it. To test that my File History is working correctly, I deleted my FH index and rebuilt it from scratch; it backed up everything except the contents of my Dropbox folder, despite it being clearly selected for indexing. It seems Dropbox made a change last September that prevents File History from seeing any files in the Dropbox folder at all. (Yes, I made sure all Dropbox files were made available offline with solid green checkmarks.) I know Dropbox offers its own file versioning, but free plans only have versioning for up to 30 days, which didnât help me here (I had a corrupted file, and the last good copy was older than that). And regardless of Dropboxâs versioning or other features, it shouldnât be interfering with Windows processes such as File History, since the files are still on my drive. I tried reporting this problem with Dropbox support, but all I learned was to stop using Dropbox support. So given that this is unlikely to be fixed, I wanted to report here to alert anyone who may be relying on File History for long-term versioning with their Dropbox files. (My current workaround is to use FreeFileSync to mirror my Dropbox files to a backup location that is indexed by File History.)86Views0likes11Commentscontext menu
Select which options appear in the context menu (When you Right Click) This suggestion appears to be one relatively sought after as there are multiple 'help threads' with people trying to do this, and no shortage of information for people to do it through unsupported and unofficial means. The reason I suggest allowing users to chose what options that appear, is because I personally would only need one or two of the options available (currently in Windows 10) and will rarely ever need another one or two. Even embedding these options in some kind of menu so they don't fill up the context menu with 7 (for me) additional items would be an improvement!31Views1like3CommentsI can't resume syncing after pausing indefinitely on Windows 11 (v240.4.8493).
Application Affected Dropbox Device Dell Desktop Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 240.4.8493 Question or Issue I paused syncing syncing last week "indefinitely." Now, I want to resume. But there is no way to do so. The bottom text of the app window pop-up just says "Syncing paused." That text is not clickable. The drop down next to it only lets you select how long to pause for. There is no "Resume." Yes, I have restarted the app and my PC. This is insane.z134Views1like6Comments"Pause Sync" does not automatically restart on my Windows device.
After the new app update, when I "Pause Sync" for 30 minutes or 1 Hour, it does not restart syncing after the selected time. It does say something like "File syncing and backups paused until 1:11 PM" but it does not start syncing again at that time and stays paused until I manually choose Resume Sync. Question or Issue On my old laptop I could see Dropbox in my file explorer. After changing to a new laptop I can not find any instructions on how to do this. The more I look the more I get annoyed because there is just nowhere where I can find instructions or get help. Can anyone here help me with this?8Views0likes1CommentI accidentally deleted SyncRootManager from the Windows registry
Application Affected Dropbox Device Dell Latitude 9440 Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) Question or Issue To resolve an issue not related to dropbox I deleted this key in the registry: HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SyncRootManager Now Dropbox won't start. I have recreated with Key + permissions using another PC, but it seems Dropbox doesn't have the permissions to install what it needs inside this key. In explorer integration, dropbox places all the actions at the top-level menu. For those of us who have a large menu already, this is an unnecessary clutter. It would be great to have a single menu item for all dropbos actions, so that the actions will open in a sub-menu.16Views0likes0Comments"Word is running into problems" error when trying to open Office files

So I have a 150gb music library on dropbox - one main folder with many subfolders etc. I have a new PC and want that music folder and dropbox app on the new PC. I don't want to use all my internet (limited mobile data) so I manually copy the folder to an external drive then into the new PC's dropbox folder (over the top of the same one the new pc dropbox install made). Same folder structure etc on both machines. It's not uploading files - just seems to be indexing. WHHHHHYYY is it taking hours and hours to index sync this folder? It says in the app will take 15 days to sync lol. I'm having a flash back of doing this before and I had to pretty much disable dropbox and only run it at night when I was sleeping and it took weeks to finish. That was years ago I was hoping for a better experience this time around. Was there a better way to do this? Any help appreciated.48Views0likes4CommentsTransferring files from desktop Dropbox to desktop Box - properties missings and files don't open
I can see this problem was discussed 11 years ago and a member describes the problem in a reply 10 years ago, but I still don't find the solution. I am trying to move files from my desktop Dropbox to my desktop (LU) BOX, like I have done countless of times before this. But I get a warning that the properties will not get copied with the file. I tried to ignore it but then I am not able to open the file after it has been copied into BOX. It has so far been Excel files and PNG I've tried to transfer, without luck. I would most appreciate help with this.46Views0likes6Comments
