".pdf files are supported but something went wrong." error on the website

I don't believe this problem has been solved - at least for me.  I get the error message (".pdf files are supported but something went wrong.") ONLY for one file (140 MB PDF), other small PDF files work fine,  I am well under my quota, and the problem occurs with both Safari and Chrome browsers operating under Sequoia 15.3.1.  I am a Basic DropBox user, so I understand "you get what you pay for".  However, any helpful advice would be welcomed - as I've had to find a working solution for this file with a vendor other than DropBox.

I create PDF renditions from Apple authoring tools (Keynote, Pages, Numbers) that can be ubiquitously read.  Safari 18.3;  Chrome Version 133.0.6943.142 (Official Build) (arm64)

Hi George Freestone, it sounds like there could be something during the creation of that PDF file which is preventing it from being previewed on the Dropbox site, or do you have anything special in the PDF which might be interfering with the preview?

Could you try recreating the file using a different PDF application entirely?

As to what the issue might be, we wouldn't be able to determine, since it seems to be limited to just that one file.

Jay - Thanks for the reply.  Something surprising just occurred and I would welcome YOUR confirmation of any action DropBox took.  My files "Our Baseball Journey.pdf" and Our Baseball Journey 2.pdf" are now miraculously displayed by the DropBox viewer.  Did your team take any action to eliminate a problem in the DropBox Viewer?  If so, what?

To answer your questions.. nothing out of the ordinary in PDF renditioning - and it worked for the last year up until recently.  Simply exporting to PDF from Apple authoring tools and scaling what is a 2 GB Keynote file to a manageable size for Cloud storage (either 140 MB or 33 MB at various resolution settings) .  So - no, don't think anything special took place.  And certainly nothing different than what worked over the past year.

I do not know how to create a scaled PDF from a keynote file with the limited software I have on my Mac - and I'm not eager to load 3rd party software on this machine.

I will point out that Google Drive has no issue with the Keynote renditioned and scaled PDF.  Here it is (viewable by all):  (your posting software doesn't seem to accommodate a link even though you provide tools to do so)

I will now try to upload a new version of the Keynote renditioned PDF to Our Baseball Journey 2 to see if the problem has miraculously been corrected (on your side).  I will report back what I find.

And why does DropBox hide replies to some of these support issues?  It does raise a question in my mind about how many problems are actually solved.  Maybe I'm wrong - but it seems odd.

As far as I know, there haven't been any changes on our end to the Dropbox site or the previewer. I'm glad to hear that it's working for you now.

Regarding the hiding of replies, are you referring to the nested threads of the forum, as in the posts within posts, or something else?

I just SUCCESSFULLY uploaded a revised version (141 MB) of Our Baseball Journey 2. pdf doing nothing different - and as in each case - the UPLOAD WAS REPORTED SUCCESSFUL but this time the Viewer appropriately displayed the now current file.  Since I did nothing differently.. what did DropBox do to resolve this issue (with the DropBox Viewer, I suspect)?

Well that's troubling - I'm not feeling very comfortable if we can't explain why the upload and view is now working.

And yes - it seems there are a large number of issues reported regarding the title of this thread - and the nested threads are not visible to me - just raising some skepticism.

Regardless - if we can't answer my question for how this issue was solved (a weekly process that DropBox runs on Wednesday evenings?) - I appreciate the attention from DropBox staff to my issue, particularly since I have a Basic Account and pay nothing for this service - which up until now has worked well (although I am unclear on versioning).  I am grateful for the comments back from at least 3 DropBox staff.  I will advise if the problem repeats - and I'm not sure we should close this ticket - as neither of us can explain how this was resolved.  With appreciation, George Freestone
